My daughter and I are going to Dr. Gibbs' seminar tomorrow and we are soooo excited to get starting this journey!!!!  My BMI is just under 40 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for final approval.  I've heard suggestions for "cheating" the BMI....any opinions/suggestions on that?

Do they weigh you at the seminar?  Do you get to schedule an office visit at that time?  Do you get to speak to him in person?  We're excited, confused, bewildered, etc.

Speak to me, someone!  LMK what to expect!

It was almost 2 years ago that I went, but this was my experience.

Yes, you do get weighed.
They take your insurance card and copy it while you are in the seminar, Carrie will call you back in a couple weeks letting you know if you are approved or not and then they will schedule an appointment for you along with a sugery date.
He answered everyone questions while we were in the seminar, but he does not talk to you on an individual basis, there were way too many people in my seminar for that to happen.

Hope this helps.

You will get TONS of information.  He is very thorough.  You will turn in your paperwork, and Carrie and Teresa will help you through the steps and help you with approval.  You don't have to "cheat" on your BMI if you have any co-morbidities.

Come back and tell us what you think and we'll have tons more advice for you!

I went to a seminar the last week of May and was approved before I could blink it seemed like. I think before the second week of June for sure. It was informative and comforting at the same time if that makes sense. I am having my RNY next week as a matter of fact. I don't think the scheduling is that far out, my husband was in Iraq and I chose to wait 4 months for him to return to be here with me. Oh, and also the turn around on your approval may rely on your insurance.
Good luck.

I forgot to mention my BMI is 39. I had one lady actually say you don't look like you would qualify-(she was another seminar attendee not a nurse or anyone from Dr. Gibbs office) I wonder if she got approved?? Anyway why judge someone when everyone is there for the same reason---better health!

So have a great seminar and watch out for the low BMI haters!! lol

Oh, wow!  Dr. Gibbs and the seminar lived up to every bit of praise I've read so far!  He was so through and straight-forward about every little thing and I learned more than I ever thought I would.  My BMI was 37 and Tina didn't think I'd have any trouble getting approved through Tricare Prime so I'm very psyched about the whole thing.  You see, I've always had a BMI of over 40 but lost 60 pounds last year and blew it all to you-know-where.  I've gained half of that weight back but still didn't make 40, so I figure I'll be "punished" for my weight loss.

Thank you everyone and keep your fingers crossed for us!  We're so excited we can hardly stand it!!!
