I'm seriously looking at the Duodenal Switch!!!
It's really a decision you need to make for yourself. I had my RNY with Dr. Gibbs and he did a great job. Mine was done 04/07/08 and I have lost 109 lbs. I still have about 104 till my goal, but everything has gone pretty well. I went to my seminar with the intention on doing the lap band and decided to go with RNY. Just weigh your options and do your research. You want to make sure that you can get a great surgeon if you decide to do the DS. All I can say is weigh your pros and cons and try to come to an informed decision.
MMMM my question is this: if you have the utmost confidence in a surgeon, why would you want a procedure that that surgeon won't do? It seems to me that Dr Gibbs has very strong reasons why he doesn't do the DS, and, as an excellent surgeon, his opinion of various procedures and their effectiveness/risks/complications should mean quite a lot to someone who is contemplating WLS.
It's not too late to call Carrie at Gibbs' office and request another consultation. Ask questions and be sure what it is you want to achieve from this. I won't get into the whole argument of rny vs ds, because it stirs up a giant bucket of worms. All I'm saying is that if you respect Gibbs, then you'll trust him and his medical judgment as well.
Take care

I love my RNY! but that being said, you need to consider what changes you are willing and able to make in your lifestyle. Also where is the nearest place to have that done and who will treat you with complications. One serious factor to consider is that WLSurgeons do not like taking patients after the fact due to liability and not being paid.
