Leaving 4 Mom's Surgery
I'm currently in my mom's room on my laptop (although I don't know for how long as this laptop is a cheap piece of junk and more importantly my connection is not great).
My mom's surgery went well. She is doped up and asleep - but fine. She had bad gas pains in her shoulders earlier, but she's knocked out now (so obviously not complaining about it).
I am NOT pleased with the BMC experience so far. The PEOPLE have been nice and helpful - but things have not been rosey.
I'll post about this as soon as I can.
My top complaints (and so far really all my other complaints stem from these 2 major complaints):
1. After her surgery, it took FIVE HOURS for them to get her a room.
2. When they finally DID get her into a room, they forgot to plug in her leg presser things for the first hour - so she was without working leg compression stockings for about an hour (maybe a little over).
Give me a day or two and I will probably have more to gripe about.
I had REALLY hoped that my mom's hospital experience at BMC would be better than mine. But so far, it is worse.
Word to people who haven't done this yet, TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU WHO IS NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK UP FOR YOU AND GRIPE TO GET THINGS DONE. I don't think the administrative and/or nursing staff here is necessarily incompetent, but maybe they are just so understaffed or disorganized that it seems that way.
I hope the BMC experience gets better from here.
So in summary, the surgery went fine. Dr. Baker was wonderful as expected. BMC has NOT been wonderful (also sadly as expected).
I'll update more when I can.
