Pre op shopping list
Ok I hate the way this message board searches. I can never find anything!
I need to make a shopping list of everything I will need after or during surgery. I want to have everything on hand and ready to go when I come home. I have already bought a single size blender and a small measuring cup that measures ounces and all that good stuff.
I want to have everything I will need for the Full liquids and a good start on the soft diet at home and waiting for me. So can everyone please add your suggestions and I will put them all together and make one great big list. I think this may be the only thing missing from Dr. Bakers hub so I may even send them a copy. So if you will either copy and paste and add your own suggestions or just list yours and I will take care of the copy and pa siting!

You know, I'm not sure about the potatoes and mac & cheese, those foods were a little too high in carbs for me to handle. I would add eggs (though those were tough to tolerate at first) and lite canned soups, the kind with smaller chunks of meat and softer veggies. For the hospital stay, I would add non-skid socks or slippers for your walks down the hall. Other than that, looks like a great start!
Edited to add: I would also buy some SF breath mints for the post-surgery time. I found that I was sooo stinky from ketosis and had such a horrible taste in my mouth constantly that it made me nauseous. Oh, and also get lots of Crystal Light -- the lemonade ones are good for settling a queasy stomach, I still drink some every morning.

Someone else on the general board said that about the potatoes and mac & Cheese. I have some soft houseshoes my daughter gave me for Chirstmas one year I will add those to my list.
Good tip on the SF breath mints I will for sure get those. I remember the ketosis from the Kimmins diet. I have a lot of Crystal Light but will be sure to stock up more. Do you guys buy the individual packs or do you make it by the quart? Just wondering, I think it taste better by the quart. I must not have the correct size water bottle.

I hate tuna. I mean H.A.T.E. (But I'm not a fish kind of girl for the most part.)
So I'd have to add canned chicken to the list. Actually, scratch that. I'd add chicken in the pouches (near the canned chicken) because it tends to be so much more tender.
I also could not have made it without sugar free popsicles.
My mom has RNY tomorrow and we just went shopping.
I'd also add the following:
sugar free pudding
V8
protein (my mom got isopure liquid but she also got some powders)
A recliner is also a good thing to have when you go home. Some people even suggest renting one. My mom had one so I stayed at their house when I first came home. It is MUCH easier to get up and down out of a recliner than it is out of a sofa or chair or bed. I stayed in that recliner (sleeping there, etc) while I recovered for the first week before moving to my bed.

Thanks Wendy. I will add chicken for sure and the others. Something that I might not really like now may taste really good when I have such limited choices.
Yes on the recliner. I lived in my recliner after my c-sections. We are one of the few old folks that still have a water bed. I have tried to get rid of it but my husband won't see of it. I have threatened to purchase a new bed while he is gone to the deer camp for two weeks. At least in a few months it should be easier for me to get in and out of and maybe I won't hit bottom so much!
Anyone had C-sections that could compare the open by pass to? I know that is hard because I have had 3 sections and they were all different, but was just wondering.

That is great to know.
My first C-Section wasn't so bad. I was knocked out for 48 hours afterwards due to complications and it was Hel* getting up but after that it wasn't so bad, of course I was 15 years younger.
My second C-Section was horrible. I had an infection and I was down for about 8 weeks.
My third C-Secions was wonderful, I was taking Easter portraits 3 weeks afterwards, animals and all.
I hope this surgery is like that, I am going to start walking as soon as I wake up.

If you still have your female parts, be prepared to deal with that. For some reason our body thinks that we don't have it bad enough so (for many women) we start mensturating shortly after surgery. If you do not come prepared, you have to wear hospital mattresses. I brought the pads that have a cleansing wipe that come with them since pads make me want to vomit. For some reason, I feel compelled to tell everyone this since it was the most miserable part of my surgery.
