Your experience getting WLS approved through Tricare?
Hi there...I had my surgery approved through Tricare Prime. You said your daughter's PCM would put in a referral with the surgeon and you should have it within 2 weeks...are you meaning you'll have the referral in two weeks or a decision in two weeks? I'm assuming you mean the referral...keep on them about it. It took me a month to get mine, but my PCM is civilian so hopefully by having an on-post PCM it won't take that long.
Once Tricare receives the referral and necessary paperwork you should have a decision quickly, usually within 24 hrs. They'll authorize a certain amount of office visits with the surgeon for a specified amount of time...for example, they authorized me for 4 office visits within 12 months, more than I needed...these are visits made before surgery. Then its pretty much just a matter of scheduling a surgery date with the surgeon. Tricare doesn't make you jump through a bunch of hoops or anything like that...if your daughter meets their requirements she shouldn't have any trouble with them.
Which surgeon will she be using? Good luck to you and let me know if you have more questions, I'll be happy to answer them if I can!

Wow! Thanks...you helped ease some of my anxiety! I meant that we should be getting the referral in about 2 weeks. I have no idea what surgeon they will refer her to. How long did you have to wait after meeting with the surgeon before you had your surgery? She's a teenager, you know...anxious and pestering and excited....
I was approved in October, I believe, and I had my surgery in January...BUT the date was my choice, I wanted to wait until after the holidays and until my husband could get time off. I could have had my surgery within a couple or 3 weeks if I had wanted to.
I'm assuming your daughter will be seeing a civilian surgeon and since you're in LR you'll probably be referred to either Dr. Gibbs or Dr. Baker....both excellent surgeons....or possibly Dr. Fuller, who is in practice with Dr. Gibbs, don't know much about him though. Dr. Gibbs did my surgery and he's great and so is his staff. If you get Dr. Baker there are several on here who can answer questions about him. Dr. Gibbs usually schedules surgeries about 2-3 weeks out from your approval date, depending on how busy his schedule is.
I'll be coming up to the airbase in about 3-4 weeks probably to buy fall/winter clothes for the kids...I'd be happy to meet with y'all, if you want, to answer questions or help alleviate fears and anxieties. This is a big step and your daughter being so young, I know it can be scary. Let me know if you'd like to do that.
Actually, you could help me out with something. Has the BX started putting out fall clothes for kids yet? We don't want to drive all the way up there only to find summer clothes still out. Would you let me know when they start putting them out please? That would be a big help!

Hey Girl...I have just had a crazy busy summer and now that the kids are back in school, its even busier!!
The month of August was full of highs and lows...from the highest highs (my husband being promoted to SGT, yay!) to heartbreakingly low lows (the death of a dear friend and fellow police officer) and a whole bunch in between including my younger brother's wedding (YAY!) to my last baby starting kindergarten (BOO HOO for me but a YAY for her).
The one thing I've discovered through it all though is that I've conquered my emotional eating habits...I never once turned to food for comfort or celebration...major victory for me!
You know, I think I'm gonna be all right!
I read your post about your mother and wanted to respond, just didn't have the time. I have one of those too...only I'm sure mine is worse! I'm dealing with her drama at the moment actually and I'm just to the point where I don't even want to see or talk to her, ever. I have a lot of praying to do about this, don't know where else to turn or what else to do about it....we've been through this before and I'm just tired of it....I'm done, you know? I hope you get/got things worked out concerning your mother, whatever that might be. Let me know if you still need to "talk" about it...I could write a book!
Thanks for thinking about me, its nice to be missed!

I read your profile and could see all that you were going through and posted for you and the other Amy the other day, I have been praying for you and as for my mom, I saw her on Monday at my sister's house but not since then and it is working out much better for me not to have contact with her on a daily basis! I took my new boyfriend who I am absolutely beyond belief crazy about like no one before with me and his son and I am so happy! Stuck between 165 and 170 but getting a lot of use of the skirts you sent me!
Glad you are doing well and truly I have missed ya!
