Hi guys!

I seem to be feeling better with not alot of trouble as far as the hidradenitis supp. goes!My diet is going well,I'm eating less and staying away from fried foods.I have totally removed soda pop from my diet and now I drink Water.Sometimes I will have a tea, some juice,or SILK milk but mostly it's been water...I think the diet has helped my HS.

I was planning on being at this coming seminar at baptist and was so excited to finally get down there to it but now I will be unable to attend this month. My doctor has sent another sleep study up for the 14th and if I don't go to that, they may take my bi-pap machine and oxygen away due to insurance stuff. There is one upside to having to go that night for the study. They're having a support group meet there at the same place at 6:30 and I plan on going to that meeting.I have to be at the sleep lab@ 8 pm so it works out perfectly,It's just a wheel across the road and I'm there.

I'm still really bummed that I'm not going to be able to go to Doc Bakers seminar this month and from what I've heard, there will be none next month...This sucks :( ah well,I'll just have to look forward to the one in October.

I weighed in at my doctors appointment yesterday,It's been a long time since I've done that but I wanted to know,My highest weight that I know of was 420 about a year ago and so yesterday my weight read 407.mehh yea that's better then 420 but it's still horrible and sure bummed me out as I've been really trying with the diet.current weight-407...and I've got a long way to go.I'm almost ashamed to post my weight here...seeing all of you looking so beautiful and doing so well!I almost think I'll never get to experience that! Also,I measured in at 6'5" tall.Actually, was alittle more then that I think!

I do have a question for Doc Baker patients.I know that he puts you on the shake diet 2 weeks prior to surgery and he will have them in the office for you to take home.Does insurance cover those? If not,How much should I be expected to pay for them?I just want to make sure I bring enough with me when time comes so I can cover the cost should Insurance not pay for them.

It'll be good when I finally am able to see him because I have so many questions. One of the things that I have been worried about is this:I've been wheelchair dependant for years now and I can't walk..Actually,I can stand and pivot and also have a walker type thing, that with assistance for my parents,I can "walk"alittle bit.

I know that it's important to walk after surgery and I'm afraid he won't do the surgery if I'm unable to take off walking alot or something.I will be able to get up and MOVE after the surgery but as far as taking off and walking alot,It concerns me.....I have to have both knees replaced and they won't do those operations until they weight has gone...it just wouldn't hold like I am now. These are just some of the things that I worry about,I pray this doesn't keep me from getting the WLS.I guess I will just have to wait and see what He tells me...

Also,I've been meaning to ask this for a while. To those that are post ops:Do any of you have problems with taking medication in Pill form?I'm just wondering if that has been or will be a problem, after the surgery...If we are able to take medicine in Pill form or does it have to be liquid form from then on out?I apologize if this sounds stupid but I thought you all could chime in anyway!

I hope everyone here has a safe and wonderful weekend!Stay fabulous!

Hi,
I want to say that your questions are not stupid, they are legit.  We have all had questions and have had worries, but I want to assure you, Dr. Baker will take care of you.

As far as the walking, I dont have a clue, but I feel sure he will do your surgery.  He understands the issues we face, although Im sure he has never been heavy, he understands his patients and does the best he can to make them comfortable.  He is very firm, means business, but is extremely concerned about his patients.

As far as the shakes go, my insurance did not cover them, but I paid $129 for 2 weeks worth, but depending on your size and how much he wants you to lose, you may have to do them for 4 weeks.  We have a few on here that have done them for 4 weeks.  They are not the best tasting things and not the most pleasant, but after you get them, we are here to  offer suggestions for different ways to fix them.

Yes, you will be like the rest of us if you follow the rules, and you'll one day reach your goal.  Just hang in there, take care of you, and know that we are here for you if you need us.

Hugs,
Rhonda D.

Thanks for the reply! You guys have been so good to me and are true friends. Thanks for letting me know about the shakes, whether it be 2 or 4 weeks,I'm going to KNOCK it OUT and do the thing!

Now when I start them,my attitude may not be so nice lol I'll be on here whining and asking for tips I'm sure.......but I WILL do it.

I feel like I've been a failure at so many things in my young life, this will not be one of them...I will not Fail at this,I WILL NOT!

Also,I've got my Chantix(quit smoking)medicine right here that I'll be starting soon...I want to get rid of those cancer sticks for good and be totally smoke free for my first Doc Baker appointment!I've already given all soda pops the boot,Haven't had any in over a month now so I think I'm doing pretty good.I'm trying to prepare myself alittle bit...God how I want to look in the mirror and see myself as Beautiful.

Also,Horselady,I saw in your profile that you suffer with TMJ...I have that too and thought I was the only one hehe!I've had it since I was a kid and it's been so painful at times. At one point they were talking about doing this radical type of surgrey but I decided to hold off on it and try to control it with pain meds when I do flare up and I def stay away from the bubbly gum and anything that requires alot of HARD bite down chewing.

You also look amazing!what a difference and your Husband looks like a really nice man.He reminds me of my Dad and Grandpa kinda!

Hi & Welcome to the loser's bench!

My aunt had a pulled muscle in her back and could not walk after her surgery.  (She could hardly even twist or move around in the bed.)  She still got her surgery.

I also paid $129 for a 2 week supply of shakes.  Insurance does not cover them (at least I've never heard of one covering them) so they make you pay for them.

Good luck!

When I first went to see Dr Baker I was also in a wheel chair and not able to walk.  He still did my surgery.  I am a little over a month out now and I can walk better with a walker.

I was a diabetic among several other things wrong with me but now I am off all diabetic meds.

I also had to pay for my shakes.  To me they was not too bad at all as a matter of fact I liked them plus mixing different thing with them kinda changes them up some.

Good luck and look forward to seeing you on the loser bench.

Huggers,

Because of your weight, he will most likely make you do the shakes for 4 weeks.  But he will still only charge you the same as 2 weeks.  I was 400 (but I am 5'2, not 6'5) at my meeting with him, and he was very concerned with my weight.  400 is very high risk.  So my original surgery date that was for July last year was changed to Aug 15th and I did the shakes for 4 weeks.  Also I had to start walking and exercising to.  Even if I stuck with the shakes, if he didn't think I was walking and exercising he was not going to do my surgery.  If you can't start walking before surgery how is he going to know if your going to walk after?  Walking after surgery is very important, and I mean life or death important.  Our chances for blood clots after surgery (after any surgery) are so high, especially if you are sedentary.  So start walking now.  I barely walked before I was scheduled for surgery and if I did I was hunched over holding the wall or the grocery cart.  I started walking up and down my hallways every hour, just once, and by the time I was almost done with 4 weeks of shakes, I was walking 15-20 trips up and down my hallway at a time.  After my surgery, they were calling me speedy in the hallways at Baptist, because I was walking almost non stop as soon as they let me.  I toted the IV pole, morphine pump and my catheter up and down that hallway.  Dr Baker was so proud of me.  I had to see him for 2 pre-op appts.  The second time was about a week before surgery, so he could weigh me to make sure I was walking and sticking to the shakes (he knows all LOL).

I take all meds in pill form, but I think that it is totally up to you as to what you want to do.  I cut my meds with a pill splitter for the first few months though, but I take them regular now.  They do have many supplements in liquid form now, you just have to look around the internet to find them.  There are many bariatric companies out there now that sell vitamins/supplements made just for us.

Thanks again for all the replies...I love to get them and try soaking most up!

Eve,Yes it could be 4 weeks...not sure!Does Dr.Baker go by weight alone or does the BMI count?I checked mine and it says "You have a BMI of 48.2" so thats alittle bit different then what yours was at 400 and might make some difference,I'm not sure we will see.Either way I shall complete them

(excuse the bold text,It changed on it's own and will not change back)lol

It's nice to hear also that being wheelchair dependant will not keep me from having surgrey, there are other ways to get moving. That's great to know!

I also remember him saying in my seminar that if you were wheelchair bound you could still walk.  He said he would have you move your chair with your feet (walking) instead of the wheels.
