Depends on your surgeon. My NUT doesn't specify any hard numbers for calories(or the other stuff for that matter), only protein. As for fiber...it's recommended to help curb plumbing issues. At this point, I try to get my cals around 800 and my protein to at least 60 and I'll be 5 months out on Sunday. Carbs, eh, touchy subject for many. Mine are usually around the same number of protein I get in and are complex! If you keep your carbs in check, then the sugars should fall in line from what I have experienced. If anything is high in sugar it will most definitely shoot your carbs through the roof! Your fats and sugars may be regulated by dumping so it varies person to person. I also work out at least once a day, usually twice and by working out I mean cardio for at least 30 minutes...no weights for me at this stage! Also, I log my food on thedailyplate.com. It tallies everything for you so you can see if something gets out of line and exactly what caused it.

I can't be of anymore help than Shawna. We have the same Dr. and NUT so our regimin is the same. It differs from Dr. to Dr. So maybe some of the other ladies who had your same Dr. Will be able to help more. But your wanting to know is a good thing and shows your detemaination to do things right. Good luck to you.

Hi Janoice!

I don't know if Courtney gives different calorie guidelines to everyone, but I think the fat, sugar, and protein is the same for everyone.

My calorie goal/limit per day was 500 until 3 months out, 700 from 3 - 6 months out, then 1000 after 6 months out.  (It was hard to get in 500 for the first 2 - 3 months.  Everything since then has been fairly easy.)

The percentage of calories from fat should be 20 - 30.  (Computed as follows: Percentage calories from fat = 100 x (9 x fat grams per serving) / calories per serving)

Eat sugar free as much as possible.  (Remember no sugar added is not the same as sugar free.)

Get in a minimum of 60 grams of protein per day.

I was given no cholesterol, sodium or fiber guidelines (that I remember).  I do remember asking for a carbohydrate guideline and was told not to worry about carbohydrates.

(LOVE the new avie btw! That's how I feel half the time I sit at this computer.  LOL)

Hello Janoice,

Guidelines may vary even within the same surgeons office.  I had RNY on June 2 with Dr. Baker, unlike Wendy, I was never given a caloric goal.  I am suppose to eat two protein suppliments a day and 3 meals - and like Wendy said, staying with in the 20 -30 percent fat range and as sugar free as possible.

Week 1-4 my meal size was suppose to be 1-2 tbsp

Week 5 2-4tbsp

Week 8 4-6tbsp

Graduating to about 1/2cup at 6-9 months out.

I can add a snack if I have had a particularly busy day and need a little more.  When I track on fitday, I average around 600 to 800 kcals a day.  I have lost from 330 (consult) to 287 (today).  I had a 2 week stall beginning week 3.  Since surgery I have come off of insulin, 2 of my 3 oral diabetes medications, and 1 of my 2 hypertension meds.

I hope this helps,

Alice
