help!!pre op liquid diet

 started my clear liquid diet today and I am starving after only 4 hours. I am on clear liquids untill Wed. and then I start on 7 days of  liquid protein sparing diet from my Dr.'s office, How did everyone handle this part? I can understand after surgery when you are a little swollen  and have some restriction, but this is torture! any suggestions?

I did not have to do this so I feel for you. I would think it'll get easier after a short amount of time, but the beginning is always the worst. I would suggest keeping your distance from food. Get out of the house and give any snacks you may have at work away. I know that I make my worst food choices when I am bored. Good luck to you and feel free to come post if you feel temptation getting the best of you. Sometimes having a good discussion about food is enough to make the hunger (head or actual) go away.

Hi,, they put me on liquid protein before the surgery for two weeks.. its actually good.. we are allowed to eat clear liquids 1-3 days after surgery and also5 days we can have yogart, cottage cheese, eggs ,, anything mulcified .. wonder why u have to do it that way.. do u know/? The only thing that bugs me is that they dont adjust the band for 6 weeks.. and ive heard alot say they starve,, what do they do I wonder.. can anyone ans this for me..

Have you had your band yet? I go to do all of the pre testing tomm., then next Thursday I go in for surgery. Don't you just love Dr. Jones, he is so compassionate.

Hi,, Robyn   no not till the 17th.. i like most of the protiene stuff except for the chocolate.. i hate choc.. lol.. but love the cheese cake,, and lemon puddy and the cream of chicken soup.. and the chicken marinar.. dont like at all that beef with the nooldes ,,, yuck.. i got some sugar free popsikles also and when i feel hungry a eat one.. they sure help.. like me family dr said.. they will be your best friend.. she also had it done by dr. jones.. and has lost about 100 lbs in less then a yr and looks great.. Dr. Jones is really nice and so is the older nurse that took care of me too.. I use to be a nurse for 22 yrs, but we didnt have stuff like this back then.. well good luck sweetie and let me know how it goes for ya.. lyn

Lyn,I am on 17th also,are the foods you are talking about the stuff you by from them? I am doing my 3 days of clear liquids untill thursday, i didn't want to make a trip to jonesboro untill i had to, I live in Forrest City, where do you live? How long do you have to do liquid diet? and how much did it cost?

oh wow what a small world for sure.. yes the stuff you buy and eat for 2 weeks before.. so you loose weight for the band .. all will shrink up in your stomach and make it easier to get to.. I went to a meeting last wed and was there all day,, but everyone was sooo nice.. got there at, 6:30 in the morn for the barium,, left there went to nea clinic and got blood work, xrays,  and ekg.. then had go fill out more paper work with Pam who is a sweet heart ,, shes the one that talks to you about the procedure.. and they gave me a pretty good size 3 leaf binder with all the stuff in to read.. not the same as when i went last yr. A few changes.. then we got in a bus and went to the hosp from 10-2 and then i went back to the clinic and more paper work.. crossed the st and went to drs. office to talk to nurse that was another 2 hrs.. and got my food.. what time do u have to be there??? we are staying over night in the hosp annex.. its only 45 a night.. and that way we dont have to drive 2 hrs to get there either.. did u do your preop already??? They even give you special soap to use the night before..   I live in Cherokee Vlg. near Hardy.       just saw your note ----it was 108.00 the drs cost.. its really good i love it wish we could use it after too.. esp the cheese cake lol.. im not sure where forest city is.. we have only been here for 2 yrs as of the 13th .. well tc talk to u soon ,, i sure hope i meet u there at the hosp too.. they said i will prob stay over night after op.. and hubby can stay in the room with me we get private rooms.. which is great..

I do all of my preop tomm, I have to be there at 7, I live about 50 min away, I have a friend who gave me about 25 diif pkgs of the food that she had left over so I am taking my list of things i have so maybe i wont have to buy as much, I need to plan on being there all day tomm? my surgery is at 7:30 thursday the 17th , hope to meet you then

I sure hope that they let u eat that stuff from your friend..my op is at 5:30 so ill be in there first lol.. i thought he only did one a day. thats what they told us.. but whats the difference lol .. i would plan on being there all day yes.. you just stay on mathews st.. and go from the barium place to the nea and then to a glass bldg across from the hosp.. then if they can use the conference room u stay there.. it was already in use so we had to go to the hosp in a bus.. there were only 6 of us and only 3 of us were getting the op.. you can take someone with u tho.. they dont care.. but before u have the conference u have to be with a nurse for about an hr or more to fill out alot of paper work.. then conf. then after that u have to go to the drs office to talk to the nurse who is older but verrryyy nice.. i was in there for 2 hrs.. but i also had a nose infection from sinuses.. be prepared to pay too.. i had to give him 528 down payment.. and i also had to pay for the lab work etc at the nea clinic which i only had to pay 10% so it was like 32.00 for me otherwise 320.00  .. hope to see u there too.. im sure we will walking the halls or ill ask a nurse what room u are in.. gl again.. lyn
