O.K.  Live and learn they say.  I worked yesterday while Jack Spratt stayed home and grilled a brisket.  When I got home I decided it would be ok to eat some since it was so tender and all.  I ate probably an ounce.  Just a very small half a piece off the end and within about 15 min. I thought I was going to die.    I got this horrible pain mid-sternum.  It felt like I had a hot poker in there and some devious being was having a lot of fun twisting it around in there.  Then came the nausea.  OMG, I'm someone that hardly ever throws up but I was praying I would just to get some relief!  Finally I did and about an hour later was feeling human again.  Don't know if it was the beer that he cooked it in or if it was too fatty (I trimmed off the fat), or just too early for my system to handle it, whatevfer it was, I doubt I'll be trying to eat any again for a long time, lol.  Oh, I was really good though, lol.  Just not worth the pain!

It doesn't really sound like you dumped and since it was so little meat, I doubt you did. It was probably a little dry, not chewed up well enough or something of the sort. I ate some chicken at PF Changs that wasnt in any sauces or what have you at about 5 weeks post-op. I was away on business and that's where we ate! Well....that was the only time I have ever thrown up. I don't think i chewed it well enough or maybe my tummy didn't like it. Either way, it came up! It was the worst hour of my life trying to go to sleep with that piece of chicken not going down. I finally decided it was coming out and it agreed. As soon as it was up and I quit seeing stars, I fell right asleep! I made sure I chewed dryer cuts of meat very well from that point on. Hope it doesn't happen to you again!

Hey Sybul, I'm so sorry to hear that! I ended up having turkey sloppy joes last night (well, about 3 tsp of the meat and 1 or 2 tsp of mashed potato) and it went down great, I think you just need some sauce with it. I think the beef is too dense right now. I'll bet it tasted great while it lasted though! Today I tried 1/4 c tuna with mayo and 2 saltines and only finished about half but it was sooooo good! I think I am just really gun shy about food right now and I'm afraid to eat too much. Everything has stayed down though - and guess what? No more diarrhea! Dr. Roller took me off my Metformin and I feel a LOT better and I'm able to keep my fluids in. Now if I can just get some energy back! Take care! Tam

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better.  The energy will pick up soon too I bet now that you're feeling better and able to get your fluids built back up.  I'm worried about getting in enough protein trying to get most of it from food.  This morning, I drank a cup of coffee with a scoop of vanilla protein powder (25gm) in it and a sweet n low and it was out of this world.  It tasted just like a latte, foam and all.  That was my breakfast but I figure it's about half the protein I will need for the day.  I ate some cottage cheese with some diced boiled egg and goat cheese crumbles all mixed up for lunch.  It sounds yucky but it was really good.  I guess at this point anything tastes good just getting to eat again.  I find I'm not hungry though.  I have to remember to eat.  I've been out mowing all morning and really having fun.  I'm not sore so I figure it's ok.

I know what you mean. I  think we'll have to be supplementing with protein for a while still. If I had to depend on food only right now I think my protein would only be at 10-15 for the whole day! I am just not hungry either. Many things sound good but there's no room! The kids and DH had homemade ice cream sandwiches with choc chip cookies for dessert last night while we did our fireworks and I was not even tempted. That is unheard of for me!

Sybul, I dont think it was dumping either, I think the major problem was that it was too soon for the brisket.  I know it sounded good, and tasted good going down, just please remember to be careful, maybe a little sauce would have made it better.   But dont feel bad, I am 17 months out or so, and I got sick yesterday myself.  Didnt eat anything wrong, it just got hung.  We had ribs chicken, etc at my sisters.  I had (on my plate) one rib, 1/2 hamburger patty and some homemade sugar free fruit salad.  Well, after only 2 bites of tender juicy well chewed rib meat, I knew I was in trouble.  My first thought was maybe I was dumping from the sugar in the BBQ sauce.  So I ate 2 bites of fruit and put away my plate.  I was miserable the rest of the evening.  Long story short, I couldnt drink even 2 hours after eating, and I knew then it was stuck.  I came home and after much coersion, I gave it to the porcelain god!!!!  Felt better immediately, and decided if I never ate another rib, I didnt care.   Moral of my story is, follow your food plan, do everything you are told, but know that its not always what you eat, or how soon or far out you are, sometimes, it JUST DONT WORK!!!!!! Maybe all of us should have stuck to liquid yesterday!!!! Rhonda D.
