Advice on food Please
Hey Shawna,
It sounds like you are on the right track. The VSG'ers I know who almost NEVER stall seem to keep their protein around 80. Most of them do it with shakes or protein bullets. It sounds like the shakes are maybe out for you but I would look into the protein bullets. It's like a concentrated syrup, not powder based. I have heard that you can just add one to a bottle of Crystal Light with a similar flavor and presto - you get fluids and protein in one. It could be reserved for a day when you're low instead of an every day thing. I don't think Ann would worry about that. You can get them at GNC I think. Also I have heard of protein nectar that some people who hate shakes like well. You may have to google it. There is one more from nashuanutrition.com that someone was talking about yesterday that is a flavored drink concentrate made by ProtiDiet. She said she hated shakes but loved these drinks.
Also, I think there's a difference between a planned nutritionally balanced snack and grazing. I wonder if it might help to try to reframe the way you think of your past behavior as grazing (that was me too) and start thinking of your "planned snack" as a mini nutrition boost that is supplementing your protein. Limit yourself to 2 or 3 that are only high protein - like the nuts or low fat string cheese and you should be fine.
Good luck - you're doing SOOOO great!
I've heard of the bullets....hmmm. I'm trying with the planned snacks, but in all honesty, I've been so busy I don't know when I'll have time to "snack" lol. I'm so full right now that the thought of food is disgusting so i can't be thinking of food at this moment. Peanuts are decent protein but sheesh they have alot of calories!

Hello,
Protein bullets are a collagen-based protein liquid that comes in tubes. It tastes almost like concentrated jello. It has a syrupy consistency. I would not be able to drink it by itself (although some people do) but I do mix it with water and a bit of similar flavored Crystal Light and it's very drinkable to me. I saw them at Walmart in theri nutritional supplement/vitamin area. I believe they come in 42 and 27 g of protein. You can buy them at GNC too but they are expensive there.
By the way, there has been some debate over whether or not the bullets provide as good a protein as whey products (whey protein isolate) so I wouldn't depend on them for every day, just on days when you need the protein boost.
I don't know it this was mentioned, but I skimmed the posts and didn't see it. So you could look into unflavored Unjury protein powder, I have been told that it has no flavor and many people on the RNY and main OH board use it. And since it is unflavored, you can add it to most everything.
You can check Vitaladys website and order a sample packet of it and try it out. many who can't stand protein powders or it makes them sick, seem to have no problems with the Unjury.
