Hey guys, first want to say thanks for all your well wishes and prayers.  It has most definitly been a looooonnnnnnnngggg week.  We got home this afternoon.  As far as what is wrong, boy, thats such a question, lol. He has been exposed to Rocky mountain spotted tick fever.  We suspicioned tick fever when we got to the hosp, and they started him early Sunday morning on the antibiotic to fight that.  Soooo, when they did the blood work on Monday to see what was going on, he had some of the mask in his system, but the blood work showed exposure.  We, along w/our docs said how do you have exposure w/o the virus.   His mouth is also very broken out in ulcer like lesions, and they are all down his throat and in his esophogus.  The good news is, its not fatal, its not contagious, but it is viral!!!!  The bad news is, it could last for up to 6 weeks, and at this point, he cant eat.  It has to be all liquids, very cold, and in small doses.  The doc says all you can do is try to outlive it, and be tough.  He has lost 19 pounds since all this started, and they said he will prolly lose several more pounds.  Now we know the weight loss is needed, but not like that!!! The fever is gone, and now we can work on keeping the blood sugar levels good since we are back home.  They dont do that very well in the hosp.   Again, thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, we are home, but very very very tired, only one or 2 hours of sleep a day, if that much, bet I do some sleeping next month!!!! Hugs, Rhonda D., the one who lived in Baptist P.S. Thanks to Susan for bringing me goodies, they were a lifesaver!!!

Even though it sucks to be him right now, really y'all have a lot to be thankful for. The two biggest things: 1) They actually figured out what was wrong with him and he's started treatment. 2) You know how to help him live on an all liquid diet (via protein shakes, etc) so that his long-term health doesn't suffer because of this. I am SO glad that he has been diagnosed and is getting the meds he needs to get better.  Hopefully you'll be sleeping well again soon!

Glad you guys are back home. I know you must be so tired. I am so glad you found out what is wrong. My goodness. I've never known anyone with the tick fever. Sounds so serious. Just take good care of him and yourself. And know that we are thinking of you and saying a few prayers to boot.

So glad you are home and things are working out!  I know what it's like to be ill and not knowing what it is!  Like someone else said, at least you can help him with this liquid phase.  Go rest and feel better!
