Grocery Shopping and Air Bubbles
Today I went grocery shopping for the first time since my surgery. I have to tell you, I was not impressed. First off it took me twice as long as it normally would. All this label reading was not fun. Then I would find something that I could eat and then the "I know my family won't eat this" would come. So I end up spending t wice as much and getting less food. Go figure. O well, thanks for listening to me vent. That is just one of the many things that is driving me nuts. Wow- what a roller coaster ride. Can anyone tell me how to stop getting the air bubbles itn my stomach every single time I eat or drink anything. Most meals I can only take one or two teaspoonfulls because of the air. It hurts and I have to stop eating or drinking. As a result, I am not getting enough to eat or drink. Any suggestions. Thanks
Tina
Hi Tina,
I'm not sure the "air bubbles" are really that. If you're experiencing pain after two tsp, you might be eating/drinking too fast. Remember, your pouch only holds about an ounce now.
I remember for a long time when I first had my surgery I burp when my pouch reached it's capacity. One more bite after that burp and I'd be miserable for an hour or so.
Eating healthy is certainly NOT cheaper, that's for sure! I'm proud of you for reading the labels, you'll get to know all of it by memory in no time. My husband started eating the way I eat and he's lost 65 lbs since my surgery, his blood pressure is back to normal and so is his HDL/LDL. All families can benefit from our healthier habits.....they just fuss about it some.
Take care
Susan
Are you swallowing air when you eat? Do you feel like you need to burp but can't? I had that trouble and I would just have my roomie "burp" me, meaning I would have him cup his hand and burp me on the back like a baby and it would seem to help the air move its way from my pouch to my throat where I could finally burp it up.
Try having your spouse or family member burp you. Don't let them hit you hard though cause your still tender and all and cupping the hand (like how you hold your hand out when someone is going to give you some candy pieces, just one hand) helps better than doing it flat handed.
