Had my surgery monday afternoon and came home yesterday late.  They did the liver biopsy which was unchanged from 2 yrs ago which is good.  Baker opted not to do the hernia repair because in his opinion it needed mess work which he will not do with a pocedure that opens the intestines.. My incision is longer than most, about a palm and a half.  The pain was pretty intense but was managable once I when to oral meds.  Morphine does not work worth a rats rear for me. Unfortunately I was not impressed by most of the nursing care.  My discharge instructions from the floor nurse were very sad.  I was instructed while in the hospital to eat 1 to 2 med cup per meal, and to continue doing so when I got home.  The instructions from the doctors office packet says 1 to 2 tbsp.  A med cup is 2 tbsp.  Thankfully I have never eaten the whole two med cups.  Would call and clarify with the nurse/nut but didn't realize the discrepency until this evening. A few of the nurses were very good and of course Lauren was a godsend. Day of surgery I weighed 311 (down from 330 preconsult).  Yesterday I weighed 318 (go figure), today 315. Alice

Welcome home!  I am glad your surgery went okay.  Yeah when I was there, there were some nurses who didn't know anything about the surgery but there was a few and of course Lauren, who came and visited me one day for like 2 hours, when my mom and grandma was there and we all talked about recipes and ideas for making things for one servings.  One idea she had that was really good was taking your broth soup and putting it in an ice tray and freezing them, and that way you ca pop just one out for your meal, and it will measure about right.  This is great for when your early out and still on liquids and 1-2 tbs at a time. I think the reason not all the nurses are familiar with our surgery is because there are many different patients on the floor with different surgeries.  There was only one or two other people on the floor who had gastric bypass when I was there.  If there were more I never saw them and I walked those floors all day long,  I only saw a few other people, 2 who had back surgeries or so I guess they had drain tubes coming out their backs.  And I don't remember what the other people had.  I know one old guy who had the drain tube out his back and his family member started calling me speedy on account of how fast I was walking up and down the halls toting my morphine and IV pole and also my catheter, LOL. Anyhow I am glad you are home now and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks you two for the encouragement.  Its been a long weekend . . . no waiver workers for my kids.  Not the best to be taking care of them with only hubby's help this close to surgery . . . oh well.  He is suppose to go back to work tomorrow at 1130 when the two aids show up, if they show up, not sure what happened to work ethics.  Ok, I'm through *****ing. Tammy you made me laugh til it hurt . . .shopping in your closet, that was too funny.  Congratulations on all the pay off for your hard work.  Both of you. Now I am going to take a pain pill and sit down . . .before I start typing nonsense. Alice 310 today or maybe I won't , Kieran is whinning and Corwin just attacked his bedroom door with the sippy cup. . .lol. . .life is such an adventure.

Alice -  Glad surgery went well for you and your home.  Don’t do anything you shouldn’t be doing (lifting kido’s, etc.)   Rest when you can and sip on the water.
