Hi Shawna! Thanks for responding to my post. My brothers have lived out there for several years now and my mom just moved out about 4 months ago. I visited there once about 10 years ago but don't remember a whole lot about the general area other than it is some beautiful country out that way. My mom really likes it there and she has been urging me to come on out. Can you tell me about jobs in that area? I am currently doing medical office work and would like to stay in that field if possible. I'm just a little scared that I won't be able to find a good job if I move. I know that sounds pretty silly since I have over 20 years office experience but change is hard sometimes!! Thanks for any input you can give me!

I'm not exactly sure about medical office jobs, but surely there's something! I would take Carla's advice and also check out monster.com. I find alot of local companies post on their(when I get pissed at my boss and start looking...lol). I know where you can apply for an accounting job, but Fayetteville is too far to drive with $4 a gallon gas(close enough!). Even if you did remember what it looked like 10 years ago, you wouldn't recognize it now! I lived here for a few years in my childhood and when I came back to go to college, nothing looked familar. This area has grown tremendously!

Hi Donna.
I actually live in Hackett but I work in Fort Smith. I lived in Fort Smith until last Nov. Than we moved a little further out in the country. I love it here though.
Fort Smith has a newspaper you can access on line. www.swtimes.com you could look thru it and get an idea of what kind of jobs are out there in your field.
Welcome and good luck to you.

Hi Carla. Thanks so much for the info on the paper. I will definitely check it out. I have heard of Hackett and I'm not sure but I believe my brothers took me thru there when I came out for a visit several years ago. My memory does not serve me well now that I am old (well, old according to my 15 year old son anyways!!) LOL!!!

Hi Donna, I live just outside of Ft. Smith and work in Van Buren. Ft. Smith has two hospitals and scads of clinics and doctor's offices. I don't think you will have trouble finding a job. The only thing you may need to adjust to is the wage difference. If you have been living in a large city, i can tell you that Ft. Smith has lower wages. It's cheaper here too though. One thing to think about is signing up with PRN in Ft. Smith when you first get here. That way you can work as a temp at the different MD offices and see who you like plus, working temp pays more per hr and you can even get health insurance with them. I say go for it, the people here are really friendly.
