Question About Where You Lose Weight

Okay, so i know everyone is different, I am just looking for someone that's has been in the same boat as I'm in. I would kind of like to know what I *might* be able to look forward to. I have lost about 62 pounds since surgery and 1 size in pants. I honestly don't get it, I really don't. I know I can't choose which fat to loose, but it's not very proportinate(not that I ever was!). I have a long body and oddly short, muscular legs. I have very little to lose on my legs/thighs. I also have no butt or hips to speak of.  Since surgery, I have lost most of my weight up top. Face, neck, chest, waist. I have always carried my weight in my stomach and remain to. I also wear pants below my waist which may be part of the reason that I haven't seen my sizes dropping, but I find that to be no excuse. I can see a big difference in my belly area and it's so much less pudgy and I would think I could fit in smaller clothes especially when I stand in front of the mirror looking at myself. My pants are so baggy in the butt and hip area, but they are still holding up around the waist. Smaller pants button and zip, but they give me a muffin top that I'm not about to sport around town.  So I have been thinking alot about this lately and I figure that when my body finally lets go, it's going to shrink faster than I expect. I'm running out of places to lose fat except for the abdominal area so most of my fat loss is going to have to start coming from there. Then again, I could be totally wrong and I may struggle with my stomach until I reach goal. Has anyone experienced this? It's getting a little discouraging that I'm not getting into smaller clothes. I feel great and I feel like I look good as well.(totally not being conceided here) Just looking for a friend in my "wanting to get into normal size clothing" misery.

Hi Shawna,  I don't know if I can help you in any way, but I'll share my weight loss experience with you.  I carried most of my weight in the hips/thighs.....not so much in the belly area.  My weight came off up top first, then the belly, then finally the hips/thigh area.  I could wear a smaller shirt size way before a smaller pant size.  I think, if I remember correctly, around 9-10 months out is when I really started dropping the pant sizes....it may not take that long for you though.  I've pretty much stabilized at 135lbs., which is my goal weight.  I don't really want to lose any more because then I would be disproportioned....I already look scrawny up top but still full on the bottom.  Also, here about the last couple of months or so what I have left has been "repostioning" itself so I'm looking more proportionate.  Now I understand why it is recommended you wait 2 yrs. before having plastic surgery....your body does start changing once you stabilize.  My skin is starting to firm in some places I didn't think it would, so there's hope yet!   I started in a tight size 22 jeans, I'm now in a 4/6 in women's, a 7/9 in juniors.  My shirt size was 22/24, I'm now in a 4/6 or small.  My bra strap size was 42, I'm now in a 32.  Hang in there, those pant sizes will start dropping and most likely it will be rapid when it does happen, so don't buy a lot of anything!  I went from a size 14 to an 8 in about 8 weeks, I skipped the size 12 completely.  It will happen, just give it a little more time.  Sounds like you're doing great....let me know if I can help any other way!

Thanks! That did help to know that someone else had a similar experience and you made it! (fabulously if you don't mind me saying) I know the weight will come off, I just have my irrational thoughts that maybe I will always be big on bottom and it scares me since if I was big on bottom, i would prefer to have a little junk in the trunk which I am totally lacking.

I have more clothes for you.  Will try and next month make it to support group there.  Also I am freaking huge in the tummy area, skin leftover! and my thighs are freaking huge, I will show you them next time in person.  Dont stress over it, because it is what it is.

You're so sweet! (and the only thing saving me from spending gargantuous amounts of money on clothes!) If it makes you feel any better I hate you for being 165-173. AB you look good and I know you feel good, so no sweat. At least you can buy "normal" clothes. That will be like the biggest accomplishment for me. No more Lame Giant(which I refuse to ever visit again on any personal shopping spree!)

Yea I know what you mean. I do the same thing...gripe, gripe, grateful, gripe. The meeting went well. There were quite a few pre-ops which is fantastic. I never went to any meetings pre-op and I should have. I want to go to the lake this weekend and get some water aerobics in. My water aerobics last year included swimming across the lake(it was in a narrow part that is about 3/4 mile wide). The greatest thing about swimming across the lake is that you have no choice! You may get tot he other side and get to rest for a few minutes but you have to turn around and come back or you have no ride home! It was pretty refreshing and I dropped alot of weight during that time. Too bad winter came along...lol.

I've always been told that we (generally) lose weight from the top down. That's why when losing most people complain that they lose their boobs way before anything else. The belly, hips and thighs are the last things to slim down so hang in there. The tool you've picked works - just stick with it!! Hope it helps - AT

That does help. I hadn't heard that, although I do hear many women complain about losing their boobs. Mine are starting to shrink, but not too much. I'd hate to have my old, fat boobs on a skinny body...it just wouldn't look right! I have to say I am glad I asked even though what everyone has said is what I was suspecting. I was starting to think maybe it was this odd shaped body. I am going to measure foot to hip bone and then hip bone to shoulder so that I will know off the top of my head how weird this is. In college, my roommate and I measured our legs compared to our torsos since mine is a mystery and she is like 1 inch taller than me and her legs were much longer than mine and she was by no means long legged. Anyways...I'm rambling. I appreciate everyone's feedback, it has made me feel much better

Shawna,
What lake do you swim at. I love to swim and haven't really found a good place to swim. I went to ten Killer last summer a little but wasn't really impressed with it.
Anyone know of a good lake to swim at. Not to far out maybe about an hour or so from Fort SMith.
I do have to get a new suit though. My last one is just way to big. But my mom is going to buy me one when I reach onederland. (which is 1.3 pounds away).
I just couldn't make the meeting last week due to gas. BUt really hope to next month. I really missed you all.
