Hello everyone, Had my pre-op consult with Dr. Baker last Thursday - he is a very intriguing man, very hard to read, definitely not the Dr. for those afraid of eye contact. lol. Surgery is still on for June 2, though he is concerned about my liver -  it is very large as I have stage 3 NASH.  He will be doing a liver biopsy as well as a hernia repair along with the RNY and Gallbladder. I feel absolutely drained from the 800 kcal shake diet but have lost 16lbs since Thursday (though as we all know it is mostly water, but hey it sounds nice on my talking scale).  Also a bit miserable because I had to go off of my 2400mg of ibuprophen a day I take for the fibro. I am asking everyone to keep me in their thoughts and if you are the praying sort, in your prayers.  I am very nervous about the surgery, the though of dying and leaving my husband alone to try to cope with our special kids is daunting. Speaking of my kids - I put pictures on my profile. Alice

Alice –  Congratulation on your upcoming surgery!  You are in great hands with Dr Baker; he is a very serious and caring doctor.  The weight loss has just begun..16lbs is a wonderful jump-start.  Monday will be the beginning of a new healthier you.  Just remember to walk, walk, walk and sip, sip and sip.  You will be in my thoughts and prayer.

Thank you for the kind reply. I feel pretty confident that I am in the hands of a very good surgeon, but hearing it from his patients lends even more credence.

You are in great hands.  Dr Baker is such a good surgeon!  If he even thinks for a second that something could go wrong during surgery he won't do it.  It's very nice feeling and relaxing as well to know that you have a surgeon who cares about YOU and not about MONEY!  I was on the shakes for 4 weeks before my surgery and I went from 400 to 368!  Those shakes really work, wish I could have just stayed on those instead of surgery.  But if I could have done it successfully on shakes and diet I wouldn't have gotten to 400 pounds in the first place :)

Know what your talking about with the shakes . . . it would be so nice if I could just drink them and loose the weight but, like you, I know that isn't going to happen.  At least we are honest with ourselves.  Plus, for me, the surgery offers other benefits as recent science has proved . . . mainly reduction of type II diabetes beyond just what weight loss can provide and hopefully in turn a reduction of the NASH. Those who claim this is a vanity surgery have never researched the science or taken care of someone with advanced diabetes or liver failure. Thanks for the encouragement. Alice
