Oh no ! I'm fighting a new addiction
Just kidding ! I just can't seem to tear myself away from this board. Every free minute I get, I'm lurking on here seeing what everybody is doing. Oh well, I guess it's better than stuffing my face while spazing out about the upcoming surgery. Question: I am told to stay away from caffeine once you've had surgery since it's a diuretic. What about the Lipton ice tea mixes? Do they have enough in them to worry about? i like the Crystal light too but the lIpton doesn't have any calories. Well, I'm off for another drive to Springdale to see Dr. Green for the follow-up appt. after my heart cath (it went well). i won't have to drive back up there until the 10th for my pre-op with Dr. Roller. It has been killing my pocketbook with all the missed work for the visits but it will be well worth it in the end. Oh, anybody have any good suggestions for a cheap elliptical machine that wil take my weight? The Wally World ones seem to only go up to 250 lb limit. Ya'll have a good day.
Hi Sybul,
At least this addition doesn't have any calories!!! Just remember that everyone is different as are their doctors and their protocols, so while there is a lot of really good information here, your own doctor's instructions are most important.
That being said, my own doctor has NO caffeine restrictions but I know other doctors do. Some of them say if you have one glass of tea or cup of coffee you have to double that amount in water.
Hope this helps, take care and we'll see you here again soon
Susan
I limit my caffeine in a morning instant coffee (the folgers has a instant coffee pre-packaged in a packet like how crystal light and wylers do their drink mixes) and I have one with my morning chocolate protein shake. It helps ti kick start me for the day. I was never a coffee drinker before surgery but I also spent most of my days (and nights) sleeping and I know that I could NEVER get all my liquids and vits in if I slept all day.
I am sure Wendy will chime in with the technical reasons as to why we aren't supposed to have caffeine, she is real smart about all those specifics, I still have to look in my post-op binder and re read all the time why I can or can't do something. And I had surgery last August!
