OK, I am only 8 days post op,  and I am WORN OUT.  I am being very diligent to eat the 1 ounce portions, soft GBP diet as perscribed.  Thats basically no raw fruit/veg, nothing with thick membranes or still having peel, no seeds, no nuts.  very lean meats puree'd.    Today is the first day I have even tried the meats, cause it just dont sound very good, basically.  Tuna was actually not bad at all, any other suggestions for this very excited newbie?

I had to go back and dig out my food journal to remember what I was eating so soon after surgery!  But I discovered that I didn't start keeping the journal until about 6wks. out from surgery.  I think I lived on mashed potatoes with cheese melted on them and chili.  I ate the Hormel canned chili with no beans in the beginning...now I make my own chili.  I've haven't been able to stomach tuna since surgery, even now after 15 months I can't eat it.  I never pureed any meats, I am a texture eater and just couldn't eat it after it had been turned to mush so I waited several weeks before starting any dense meats.  I spent most of my days drinking and only actually ate food once or twice a day in the beginning.  I wish I could help you more but I just don't remember that far back.  Hopefully somebody who has had the surgery more recently, or an oldie who kept better notes, will be able to help you more.  At this point you don't need to worry about fat grams or calories or carbs....just protein and fluids.  Whatever you find that you can handle, taste good, and has good nutritional value stick with it until you're ready to move on.  Soft cheeses are always a good option, for protein and calcium.  If I think of anything else I'll let you.  Let us know how you're doing, who your doctor is, and if we can answer anymore questions.  Take care!

Hi there, I used to take a slice of deli ham or turkey, chop it REALLY, REALLY fine then add a bit of  low fat mayo and a dash of mustard or pickle relish.  The mayo kept it moist enough to go down easily, probably like you made the tuna.  Good luck, we're here for ya!
