Question about consult . . .

I have my consult with Dr. Baker on Thursday then, then go over to the hospital for registration and stuff. Question, can anyone give me an idea of what to expect?  What will be done?  Any questions that I might have forgot but should ask?  Anything you wish you would have asked but didn't?  Etc. . . My husband unexpectedly has to go out of town so he won't be going with me, and that means this whole week I am home alone with my two munchins and things get a bit harried in a house with two severely disabled kids.  I will have to get up early and get them on the bus and drive like crazy to get to the consult and I want to have everything lined out because I am sure to forget my own names. lol Thanks for any and all advice. I had lap band  with Dr Gibbs, so I can't help you much.  Good luck getting it all done!! Eliza

Hey Alice, My doctor is Dr. Baker. You will get weighed. Then see Addie the nurse. She will take your blood pressure and measure you. Then she will go over everything that will happen in the hospital. She is very thorough. So be sure and ask her any questions that you have. She is very nice. Then you will see the nutrionist and she will give you the list for your dietary needs the first few weeks after surgery. She will also go over them with you. Then you will see Dr. Baker. He will talk to you and ask you if you have started an excercise program and if you have removed all the junk food from your house...lol. Then he will look at your stomach. And talk about any medication you might be on. He is a very, very nice man. Just relax. It will be ok. I was very nervous when I went. Then afterwards I realized there was nothing to be nervous about.  I worried for nothing. You will also get the shakes that you have to start on a couple of weeks before surgery. You will get those from Christy I think. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Ann,  that run down gave me a good idea what to expect.  Sounds like I will be there a while.  No wonder the papers say I am to go BMC at 2pm for my surgical pre-testing (I wonder what all that will entail).  Thanks so much.  Alice

Yea, I had to hurry over to the hospital after my visit with Dr. Baker for my pre-testing. I had my surgery at St. Vincent so it might be different but I doubt it.  When I went they drew a lot of blood, did an EKG, and took a chest ex-ray. So you will be there for a while too. Good luck.
