Ok here is my thing ..... When I decided to do this I decided to have the lap band..... then I changed it to the bypass.  Now I am not sure which one I want or need.  I changed from the lap band cauz I am in a wheel chair and I knew I would lose weigh faster and get out of the wheel chair faster plus other health issues.  But some of the things I have heard about the bypass scares me.  I am just so confused right now.  Any advise or comments from anyone of you would be so appreciated. I have heard things like you say sick more with the bypass also you have more problems some life threatening.  Among other horror stories. Also, I have not had my appointment with Dr. Baker yet it is the 5th of June.  Can someone tell me what to expect or anything I need to do to get ready for the appointment. I am just so excited about all this but concerened also. Ok thanks for listening to all this LOL. Huggers, Jan

I can not help yo umake your decision you need to discuss it with your doctor.
I personally had the By-pass. I originally wanted lap-band but after talking with my doctor we decided that by-pass would be best for me. I have done GREAT!!. I have had no problems at all. Everything has been fine. I follow all the rules to a T. SO that may help. I know some people still may have problems but I have not. I don't know if you believe in GOd or not but if you do pray an ask him for guidance. He will not steer you wrong.
Good luck on you decision. Either way we will make room for you on the loosers bench.

Hey Jan, I will give you my two cents worth. I chose the By-pass because I have absolutely no will power at all. I needed the one that was going to force me to do I was supposed to do or suffer the consequences. I have known some people with the band and that had the by-pass and the ones with the band can still eat bad things like ice cream, chips, candy, etc.. as long as you eat slowly and small bites. WIth me that just would not help me at all because I would do just that, I would cheat and work aroung the band. (I know I am going to get hammered for that comment but that is what I was told.) When you talk with the doctor he will tell you which procedure he thinks you should have. But do pray over it and the Lord will guide you and the doctor in the right direction. Good luck and wish you the best in making your decision.
GOD BLESS   Cynthia

Thank you both for your comments.  Yes I do believe in God and I will pray.  What you both have said has helped.  As you suggested I will talk it over with the doctor.  It is still a little over a month away before my surg and I have too much time to think so I am really making myself nervious and scared listening to people who has not had either surg. I will pray to God to give the doctor and myself the wisdom to know which is best for me and I also plan to do everything the doc tells me to the T.  I also have no will power but I have to do something or I will be dead within a year.  I feel this is the best route for me I know this to be true it is just not knowing witch one is the best for me. Again thank you both for your comments and suggestions. Huggers, Jan

I am replying to give you a Band perspective.  The otehr ladies are right that you can eat around the band if you choose to do so but, with proper fills you won't be able to.  Even if I want to eat one more bite when I am at a good fill level I just can't.  The consequences for us it the "productive Burping" also known in the real world as PUKING.   I did not complete any research on RNY and can't help you out there.  I am thankful that there are multiple surgies out there as this does not seem to be a one size fits all solution for those of us with weight issues.   I was banded 1/5/07 and have lost 75 pounds.  I have followed the rules but, do eat the occasional "bad" things but. . . .so do skinny people that haven't had the band/rny.  My friend that are obsessive and work out at the gym 5 days a week have to get right back on the wagon when they fall off as well.  I am sure after talking to Dr. Baker you will have a much clearer picture of what is right for you.  Good Luck and congrats on deciding to do something.  I remember how excited I was when I made the decision.  Your life is about to change for the better.  Enjoy the progress.  Shannon
