Baptist Hospital

Can someone please tell me what to expect during my hospital stay at Baptist? My surgery date is June 6th and now I'm having issues about the actual hospital stay.  I had a bad experience with a 7 week hospital stay at UAMS years ago.  I have been to Baptist before but it was for PS and I was out in a day. Since my surgery is on a Friday would it be expected that I'd probably get out about Monday? I don't have my packet from Carrie yet so I guess I'm just getting nervous but the actual hospital stay is whats really getting scarey.

Well, I am typing this from Baptist hospital.  They will absolutely be wonderful in pre and post op.  Several of the nurses on 6 have had the procedure and know what you are experiencing,  several have NO CLUE.  Its not going to be unlike any other hospital stay, just be SURE you have someone staying with you, cause things will happen faster than the nurses can get to you, and it can be messy.   Dont let anyone tell you its easy, ,cause so far, it hasnt been, but the end result is what counts. Best of luck, and hurry, we are saving you a seat on the losers bench!

Thank you so much for getting back to me. My husband is going to be coming with me, but do they allow someone to actually stay in the room with you? Is it a private room or do you share with another patient? We were going to get him a hotel room while I'm in the hospital since the hospital is so far away from where we live. I'm willing to go through whatever I have to in order to get my life back. It absolutely is the end result that counts. Best of luck to you too and I hope you have a speedy recovery. Defintely save me a seat on the losers bench, I'll be right there!

I had Lap-Band, so my experience will differ from your's somewhat. I only had to stay one night. I found the staff to be helpful (besides having to call them more than once for something). My family was unable to stay with me during my recovery period, so I was totally dependant on the staff to help me. Most of the time, they came quickly when I needed something, but occasionally, they forgot me. Don't worry, just hit the nurse button again! I did and they didn't get upset with me. They were sorry that they'd forgotten me. I had to walk the halls by myself after the first time, but I wasn't very sore (pain meds were still working!!!), so it was possible for me. All in all, they were efficient and friendly, so I would recommend the hospital to anyone. Hope this helps! karen

It does help. I really appreciate your reply. I have been to Baptist before but it wasn't a big deal and it seemed like I was right in and right out. My experience with UAMS wasn't actually their fault. I was on their maternity ward for almost six weeks due to a high risk pregnancy. There were plenty of other nice women in their maternity ward but I happened to end up with a woman they were trying to get cleaned up. Her hallucinations where pretty scarey and I felt trapped because her side of the room was by the door. I had been told I was getting a private room when I first registered but somehow ended up in a semi-private. After the incident they moved me to the surgical floor and into a private room until I had my babies, so it wasn't all bad. I think I'm just nervous about sleeping in the same room as a stranger just from that experience. I never realized it had bothered me so badly until it dawned on me about being in the hospital a couple days. Thank you for your help.

Hi there, I just spent four days at Baptist on the 6th floor after an open gallbladder, hernia repair and small bowel obstruction surgery,  Dr Gibbs is my doctor and it was supposed to be laproscopic, but ended up as an open. Anyway, I can't say enough about the care I got there.  It was terrific!  There was one night nurse named Richard that  I didn't care for too much, just not my type of personality, but other than that, everyone was very attentive to my needs. I was also there a year ago for an infected incision from a repair on my Achilles tendon and stayed a week on the 4th floor. They were great too, but the food sure wasn't...LOL!!  But, you're not going to care about how good or bad the food is, are you?

Thank you for your response! Oh heavens no, I'm not going to care at all about the food. I'm still waiting to get my packet from Carrie so right now I'm just trying to figure out about the room. I wanted to make reservations for my husband. Did you have someone with you for surgery and if so, where did they stay? My sister called the Baptist Health Plaza Hotel to get the information but my other sister said she stayed in it years ago and it was kind of nasty. I'm glad your surgery went well and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
