Calorie breakdown for Dr. Gibbs Patients
Got a question about the calorie breakdown. I got a email from JoBeth and she said at a year out I sould be taking in around 1200-1400 calories a day, but she did not say how it is broken down. Does anyone know how much fat, carbs, protein etc. should come from these calories? I seem to remember a post that said there was a certain percentage like 30, 35, 35 or something like that. Any help is appreciated.
Hi Cynthia, here are the numbers JoBeth gave me. Fat no more than 30% of daily calories with less than 10% saturated......Carbs around 50% of daily calories, these are good carbs (fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes)......Protein 20-25% of daily calories. For example, if you eat 1200 calories a day then 600 of those calories should come from CARBS, 240-300 calories should come from PROTEIN, and 300-360 should come from FAT with no more than 10% of those calories being saturated fat. My protein calories usually run around 30% and my fat around 20-25% and my carbs are never 50%. These numbers are guidelines, just make sure that your totals fall within these numbers and you'll be fine. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.
