Thanks for all the help.  I have been lurking for a while.  One question.   Once  you have a date, do you have to go to the hospital to make arrangements, talk to the anotheolgist(sp), give blood, etc.  My husband is worried about having to take off work so ofton.   Thanks

Allison, Once you get approved, your date and all, you will go one day to Baptist and do all of your pre-admitting stuff at one time.  Any chest xrays, blood work and so on that you have to get done will all be done at one time.  You will meet w/the person from respiratory, they will give you a spirometer to bring with you the day of surgery.  That is the thing that you will  have to breathe in hourly to keep you from getting pneumonia post op.  But the only day before surgery is that one.  Hope this helps and know that we are here for you any time.  So stop just lurking and come on out and play.  We are a crazy bunch, but we mean well!!!! Good luck and let us know about your journey, Rhonda D.

Hi Allison, I'm a Dr. Gibbs patient too....had my surgery January 19, 2007. Once you get your surgery date Carrie from Dr. Gibbs office will call you and schedule a day to do all of your pre-op testing and pre-admitting at Baptist.  If you're traveling a long distance she will try to get the pre-op testing scheduled for the day before surgery so you only have to make one trip...do your testing one day, spend the night, have surgery the next...that's what I did.  Dr. Gibbs office will set up all of your pre-op testing appointments for you, including your nutritionist.  Carrie will send you a packet with instructions and you can always call her if you don't understand.  The only pre-op testing I had done was some blood work and then a guy from respiratory came in to give me the spirometer....that was it.  You'll pre-admit at Baptist, get your blood work and paperwork done, meet with the nutritionist, and see Dr. Gibbs all in one day and all of your appointments will be right there at Baptist Hospital....Dr. Gibbs office is on the backside of the hospital.  If you have any more questions feel free to ask!  Good luck and let us know how its going...
