Questions
Hi Tina,
Here's my suggestions for the hospital, others will probably add to it:
1. Pillow--the hospital's are flat and hard!
2. Pair of comfy, stretchy pants like sleep pants or sweats....don't bother with a shirt, just wear the gown they give you with the pants, a shirt won't work with the IV line and heart monitor...it would be too hard to get on and off
3. A good book or music...it will get boring after a while
4. Slippers you can just stick your feet into, for walking....and you must walk after surgery!
5. Personal hygiene products
6. Maybe some chapstick because your lips will get very dry...you won't be allowed anything to drin****il the following day and you will be very dry
That's all I can think of at the moment. You won't need any vitamins right away. You'll start your vitamins about a week after surgery, if I remember correctly. Dr. Gibbs recommends the Flintstones Chewables, one twice a day....I still use these. You won't start your calcium supplements until 3-4 weeks after surgery, can't remember exactly when...Susan will know. Have you met with JoBeth, the nutritionist yet? She'll advise you on the calcium supplements, she'll probably recommend the Calcium Citrate Petities with Vitamin D....that's what I use. If you come up with any more questions, feel free to fire away with them. Good luck to you!
No, I haven't met with anyone yet. I have my first appointment with Dr. Fuller today and Fri. I go see the Nut and pre admit. I don't live far from LR so I will get it all done on my off day instead of taking Mon. off. I will work Mon and then Tues is it. I am so nervous. I try not to think about it and stay busy doing other things but that is kinda like not thinking about your arm right after you break it.
