Hiccups Question

Has anyone's hiccups changed since surgery?  My hiccups are so horrible.  They are loud and sort of high pitched and sound like I am dying.  They scare my poor little niece.  I can't do anything to get rid of them.  Eventually my throat becomes sore and the hiccups become painful if they last to long.  On average, a bout of the hiccups will last 30 minutes or longer. Has anyone else had troubles with hiccups?  I miss my quiet discreet hiccups I had before surgery.  They are embarrassing if I am in public and I get them :)

I get hiccups, those really bad ones, if I eat to fast or if I overeat.  I also have some kind of reaction to dense protein, like steak, hamburger, or chicken and I will either spend thirty minutes or longer sneezing so hard that it drives me nuts or hiccupping.  Yep, it does hurt my throat and my chest and mine are loud too.

I had the same thing immediately post-op.  They HURT.  I had them ALL THE TIME in the hospital - they even gave me meds to relax my diaphram to try to stop them because I couldn't even chew ice without getting them.  But I learned that FOR ME that is a sign that I have over-eaten.  Many people on here have the same problem when they eat too much (or drink too much too fast).  (I guess my pouch was so swollen immediately post-op that ANYTHING set them off.) So thankfully, I still measure food religiously and only get them every great once in a while when I eat something really dense.   If you are just getting them sparadically... lord I don't know what it could be.  I hope it gets better though.

I have never gotten them when eating a meal.  But I have gotten them when sneaking a bite from my roomie, but one little bite shouldn't cause the hiccups, but I never thought about it being from drinking.  Sometimes I drink fast, like I did pre-op so I will watch that and see if that is it. I used to get the hiccups more than normal pre-op to.  Thanks for all the replies.
