Oh my God!!! I called my insurance company today and found out that I was approved!!!!i!!!!!!!!!!!!! After six years, two doctors, and four insurance companies, I've finally gotten an approval! Dr. Baker's office is trying to fit me in on April 30 because that is the last day of my insurance. Please be in agreement with me, in prayer, that Dr. Baker will find it in his heart to do my surgery on the 30th!!! I am so excited that I don't know what to do....I can't even eat anything! I don't have much of a support system, so the support I get here is vital to me. I thank you all! Karen

I forgot to add that I need all information I can get on what to take to the hospital, what to expect from the surgery and during the first couple of weeks, etc. I've researched for years, but most of my researching was on how to get approved! LOL  Thanks!

Yay!  Congratulations on your approval!  I am so excited for you. As to what you should bring to the hospital, I don't have any personal knowledge or tips, because I am also still a pre-op.. but I have watched every last one of  Amelia's (massagegoddess) youtube videos about her WLS, and I know she has some videos on what she brought to the hospital and what she used afterward.  She even made an entire video (for me!!) after I asked her specifically about her hospital experience.   Hang on.. lemme find those links.. Here's a link to her video about a medical alert bracelet (which I think is a good idea), here's her video about her hospital experience, this is a video of the things Amelia actually used after her RNY (she has an earlier video with all the stuff she bought, but a lot of it wasn't very useful after all). And finally, here is Amelia's page on youtube-- all her videos are there, and they have been so very helpful to me in preparing for surgery.  I am the kind of person that likes a mix of information types.. reading is great, but there's a whole other facet of reality seeing the changes in another real live person.  I highly recommend her videos if you have the time.  She updates every week. Anyway, I do hope this helps.  If you want a friend to check in on you and be your support, I'm willing!  I know we don't know each other, but that is easily changed. Good luck on getting your surgery in April!! Helen

Wow! Thanks for all of the information. The only problem is that I live out in the country and we have dial-up, so I can'****ch the videos. :(  But I do appreciate the help a lot. And I would love a friend!!! By the way, I have lots of family in Arkadelphia. : )  Karen

Congrats on the approval!!  I brought with me to the hospital my cellphone and charger (I played games on my phone), a housecoat and slippers (for walking the hallways) and puzzle magazine, book and some needlework.  I also brought my ipod but it was hard to listen to because nurses would come in or out or I would have visitors.  Also I brought my cpap machine (mandatory if you have Sleep Apnea, Dr Baker will send you home if you don't have your CPAP machine with you).
