I know this is completely off topic but I was looking for any opinions any of you might have on a University in your state.   My neice has visited a few colleges and she is now considering Harding University in Searcy Arkansas.  We have never heard of this school other than one person she knows went there many years ago.  We come from Long Island NY and Arkansas is really far away. Any of you attend Harding or send your children there? Is it a safe area? Thank you!

Hi there, Good for you for looking here for info on schools out of your state.  I'm a hairdresser and have a couple of clients who have gone there, or have children going there. From what I hear it is a Christian College with very high standards, both academically and morally.  Searcy is a very small town, and my Harding students tell me there isn't much going on there but the school, which is good for someone far away from home! Not much there to get into trouble.  Hopefully you'll get some more responses from some folks that know more than I do. Good luck to your niece

Susan

Have fun looking.  My son went to Hendrix College in Conway.  It is a Methodist College and has a very good reputation.  He really loved it.  When he went on job interviews, employers were impressed by Hendrix.   Harding and Hendrix are both excellent choices.   Also, Lyon College at Batesville is an excellent choice.  It is a Presbyterian College.  Good Luck.

Hi, I live 3 blocks from Harding Univ.  As far as their education and reputation as a university, they are known to be one of the best private christian universities.  They have sister campuses in other countries and many students get the chance to go study abroad.  They are a Church of Christ university, almost all students who go there are Church of Christ, but I don't think they would deny someone if they weren't. They are very strict, but they do that because your there to learn not party.  Males are not allowed in Female dorms, and Females are not allowed in Male dorms.  They have a strict curfew, I believe for first years its 10pm and other grades are 11pm except I think on fridays its an hour later.  They have a no smoking policy on the entire campus inside and outside, including parking lots.    Their tuition prices are higher than any other school around here.  I don't know exact numbers but you can check out their website for all that information. Also, there is no drinking anywhere in the town or county.  It is illegal to buy alcohol here, so if she decided to ho to harding, her parents and family would know that she would be getting a top-notch education, and there would be no partying or drinking or sexual parties like in some other colleges.  Alcohol is not even sold anywhere in the county. My brother in law went there, and he loved it.  If I ever could get the chance to go there, I would.

HI. I live in Searcy and just wanted to let you know that Harding University is an excellent school. They are top rated as one of the best in the country. Searcy is a wonderful town as well. We have a pop of about 20,000 and are 45 mins from Little Rock. It's a great place to live and work and has great public schools. Hope this helps...feel free to contact me if you have any questions...Christy

What a relief!  I am so happy to be reading all of these things.  So many things to worry about but your comments sure gave us some peace with her decision.

Thank you all!

I live in Searcy.  Came here in 1992 from Shreveport, Louisiana as a Harding student and never left.  (I had a friend at Harding who was from Long Island, attending at the same time as me.  Both she and her sister attended Harding.)  Harding is an excellent university.  Statistically, it ranks at the top academically for private universities.  As far as safety goes, Searcy is about as safe as you can get!

Over 4 motnhs later- Thank you all for your responses-  My neice is there and pretty happy so far-Her roomate seems a little off but only time can tell with that.  My neice is young so she will have to learn how to deal/or not deal with her.  I was wondering if anyone knows if any grocery stores in the area offer delivery service?  I have searched online and have found nothing.  I sent a care package and it cost a fortune to ship so I was thinking this might be a better route.  I did place a order with Walgreens.com but they don't have fresh food.

Thank you

Let me just say that college roommates can suck and there isn't a whole lot to do about it except maybe put in for a transfer to a different room at semester. My roomie was a slob. Her papers would fall behind her desk and she would just push the chair in th keep them at bay. She went home every weekend so I would pull the chair out, crawl under there and remove the massive amounts of paper shoved under there. Also, she Febreezed her clothes to get her between laundering if she didn't go home for a weekend. It was gross. She was the daughter of a very well known lawyer. Go figure. (btw I have never heard of any grocery stores doing home delivery locally so I cannot help you there)
