Hi everyone!  I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks but the reality is finally starting to settle in.  I'm very excited/nervous/scared to death!  I think I've hit the maximum limit on bugging the doctors office with questions.   I'm very inspired by all of you!  Any advice for me???

Welcome aboard and nothing but prayers and good thoughts.
You can feel free to ask anything that you want. There are some good people on here and have lots of good advice and answers.
Your emotions are normal. I think most everyone goes thru the same thing. We all want it so bad we get really excited when we get approved and than we get nervous about the actual surgery and life change the closer it gets. But just hang on there and you canP M just about anyone on here at anytime with any things.
Best wishes to you again and will be seeing you on the losers bench really soon.

Hi there, I understand what you're saying about overloading the doctor's office with questions, but heck, what are you paying them for???  You need to ask all the questions you can think of, no matter how small YOU think they are, they are important to YOU!!! You are about to go into uncharted territory here, so don't hesitate to ask away,  we're here to help anyway we can. Good luck to you on your journey!

Susan

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement!  I'm glad to know that how I'm feeling is normal.  It just seems that I'm going to have to go through SO much--and it's not going to work.  I've been on so many diets in the past and nothing worked.  I guess if I could actually believe that the lap band would help me get the weight off once and for all, it wouldn't seem so bad.  I have Type 2 Diabetes and two children.  I need to get healthy.   I've also read too many horror stories about complications.  I'm trying to have faith but wow the FREAKING OUT part is outweighing my faith right now!!!  It does feel better though knowing you all will let me be a part of your group!  I'm scheduled for 7 a.m. on Tuesday.  YIKES!

Hi, what kind of surgery are you going to have?  Is it going to be open or lap?  I had open rny (gastric bypass).  I actually was happy I had mine open, I never had any gas pains or anything like that after my surgery.  My incision is only 4 inches long and is up high enough that my bra completely covers it.   I hope you have a good surgery and don't fret to much.  It is perfectly normal to have a alot of things going through your head as your surgery day gets nearer.  I started rewriting my will a week before my surgery, even though I didn't need to. I thought of all kinds of things that "could" go wrong, but when my mind started going that way, I would just remind myself that my surgeon has a great OR record.  Also coming here and going to the surgery dates board for Aug 2007 (my surgery month) and reading other people's posts that had surgery around the same time as me brought alot of relief for me to, since most of their posts were basically the same things I was going through immediatly before and after my surgery. If you haven't checked out the surgery dates board, I recommend it.  Theres a link and drop down menu at the top of the pages and just click on your month and year for your surgery and it will take you there.  You may find lots of answers to questions you may have.

You guys are GREAT!  I know what you mean about thinking about re-writing your will.  I'm thinking about writing a letter to each of my children, my husband, and my mom.  I don't want to be dramatic or anything, but you never know...  I'm trying to have faith and I know that God will be there with me.   I'm having a lap band, by the way.

The only advice I would have is to prepare as best you can for your new lifestyle.   I'd get all the junkfood out of the house (even if you have kids & hubby - they don't need that junk either)!  I'd buy healthy post-op foods/snacks.  Healthy Request Cream of fill-in-the-blank soups and sugar free jellos/puddings were suggested to me when I asked this question to JoBeth pre-op.  I'd add to that list sugar free popsicles - which I really believed saved my sanity immediately post-op.   I'd also say to try to get your focus as AWAY from "nerves" as you can and more on to positive thinking about how absolutely wonderful this will be for your overall health and overall well-being long term.  This will be one of the best things you ever do for yourself - EVER.   Good luck and welcome to the board!
