ok I need a painfully honest person please
I am in NWA Northwest Arkansas and I have BCBS insurance.
I'll be 40 in June and currently I am 329 pounds. The most I've ever
weighed is 360 pounds at the time of my son's birth. After following
Atkins diet, I was able to get down to 280, which took a year.
So I am getting all of the information I can about the lap-band procedure,
since I have mild sleep apnea, I qualify medically.
I would really like some gut-honest answers to some questions so that my
husband and I can sit down and look at everything objectively.
My husband argues that the surgery is best suited to people who over-eat
and can't control their eating. I don't have this problem. I tend to
think that I once, many years ago, had this problem and now I'm suffering
the consequences.
I can be disciplined, but I am not consistent.
Last night he looked at me and said " do what you need to do honey...find the best surgeon in this area...."
so ....please tell me ...who's the best?
I am sure that we are all going to recommend our own surgeons. I used Dr Josh Roller. He is in NWA. I had RYN in Sept 07. He and his staff are very friendly and helpful.
I never thought of my self as an overeater. I have always been a snacker. I loved junk food and sodas. BUt since surgery I have done great. I have lost 82 pounds so far. I have had no complications at all.
Good luck on your quest. Just make sure you do all your research. Also include your husband in all that you do and your appointments. It will make him more informed and more comfortable also.
Feel free to pm me.

I weighed about what you weigh when I began the journey. I had bypass simply because I wanted to lose as much as possible as fast as possible. I also didn't want to do the fills but my surgeon recommended me as big as I was to have bypass as he said it was more successful for very large people. Talk to Dr. Roller, he's great and will advise you which is best for you.
I live in Fort Smith and I used Dr. Rex Luttrell in Little Rock. I know of three other friends who have used him, too. He and his staff are very good and easy to work with. I think the lap band is wonderful. I didn't have that much weight to lose .... I started at 205 and am now at 165 (two years later). My goal weight is about 135. What I like is the slowness of losing, and the re-training of how and what to eat. I've had bulimia and anorexia in the past and this is definitely the best way to lose weight and become nutrition conscious. Like anything else, if you eat the ice cream, pudding and soft carbs, then the weight will not come off. It does take time to adjust, but it is not impossible. In fact, you really just have to make every bite that you eat, work for you (nutrition wise).
