calcium help
I don't take chewables, so I can't help you there except to say that I have heard that bariatricadvantage.com has chewable calciums. So you may try there?
I take plain old Spring Valley (or whatever that Wal-Mart brand is called) Calcium Citrate + (the plus stands for added magnesium and vitamin D). They are huge pills, but they go down fine.
Hi Carla,
That darned company stopped making our Chewy Bites....which really stinks since they were not only my supplement, but a little treat everyday.
I understand bariatricadvantage.com has a calcium citrate lozenge that come in various flavors, but they are pretty pricey when you consider you have to take 3-4 a day.
I do what Wendy does, the Wal-mart calcium+

Hey Carla, both me and my husband take the Viactive Chocolate or Caramel Calcium chews. I do the sugar free ones, and my husband does the regular. They are really good, and it gives me my chocolate fix for the day. We get them from Walmart, a box of 90 is like $8, they have the generic there as well, but they don't taste the same. Good luck in finding something you like.
Cynthia, I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Viactive calcium contains calcium carbonate, NOT citrate, which is the only calcium RNY patients can absorb. Stomach acid is required for calcium carbonate to be absorbed into the bloodstream, and since we don't have that part of our stomachs any more, you're not getting any benefit from them, aside from your chocolate fix.
Wal-mart carries Calcium Citrate +D in their own brand and is very cheap. Big pills, and you still have to take one, twice a day, but it is the correct calcium that you need.
If you need clarification on this, I'm sure you can call Carrie at Gibbs office to confirm it, but trust me, you're wasting your money on Viactive.

Carla,
Dr. Gibbs has me taking 2 Citracal Calcuim Citrate Petites with Vitimin D. They are smaller size and easy to swallow. I have never tried any of the chewables but if I could find one that did not taste bad I would probably pass it by Dr. Gibbs or Carrie and try it with thier approval.

I take NSI Calcium Citrate chewable tablets. I buy them from www.vitacost.com They cost about 10.00 for a bottle of 120 (which is enough for 1 month, I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night) and only 4.99 shipping and handling. They are CHEWABLE! I love these, they are the only ones I use.
Tropical Oasis makes a liquid calcium citrate and I believe you can also get it from vitacost.com
I tried the Citracal Creamy Bites, my local WalMart had them in February, but only the lemon cream ones, and I absolutely hate them. It is so sweet, and I would nibble on it forever, I just didn't like them.
