Got a surgery date!! OMG
After seven months, I finally got approved by insurance and got a surgery date. Whoohooo. I am having surgery on April 2nd. Dr. Baker is my surgeon and I'm having the surgery at St. Vincents in LR. I go to see Dr. Baker this Thursday. I am a little nervous about that. Anyway, when they called me with the date today, I was so excited but scared and nervous. I couldn't stop my hands from shaking for two hours...lol. I'm having the surgery at St. Vincents because that is where my insurance pays. Ya know how that goes. Gotta go where they say if they are paying. Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys had surgery there and what your experience was like. I want to thank all of you. I have learned so much from you. And I'm sure I will be asking a lot of questions now that this is really going to happen. It's been a long journey up till now, but finally I'm on my way... yea!!!!!
Ann
Congratulations, Ann!!!
My surgery was at St Vincent's. Your surgery is on a Wednesday so you should be OK. My problem with SV was not on the weekdays, but on Saturday, the day I was to go home, I didn't see a single nurse after the Aide came in to unhook my monitor so I could shower. But, by then I was pretty much able to be on my own anyway. Is Dr Baker doing it lap or open? If it's lap I wouldn't be concerned at all, but if you're having it open and staying until Saturday, I'd have someone there with you on that day for sure.
The care I got on the weekdays was wonderful, very nice nurses and great pain control. I can't complain at all about that part of my stay, it's just they are horribly understaffed on the weekends and the patients are short changed for it. Maybe it was because I'm so blasted independent and was able to get around so well by then that they left me alone, but I'm really sure it was staffing.
You will have a private room which is so nice and each room has it's own shower too.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. It's what I'm here for!
Susan
congratulations on your date. I didn't have my surgery in Arkansas so I can't give you any insights on the hospitals, but I can tell you that for sure have someone stay with you that first night to scope out the care. My husband stayed with me and it was a good thing, the nursing care was awful to say the least, but I would do it all over again, bad nurses and all.
Hi Ann!! First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm so happy for you. Its understandable to be nervous but you will do fine. I had my Lap-Band surgery at St. Vincent's. I was only there for one night but it was FANTASTIC! Of course I was hurting some, but the staff were wonderful. They were compassionate and very helpful and also knowledgeable about things I asked them. The facility itself was very clean and neat. Overall, I would recommend St. Vincent's as a great place to have your procedure done!! Let us know how you turn out! We will be thinking about you! Take care!!
