Insurance coverage

Hi everyone.  Just wondering if any of you know of anybody with BC/BS insurance with Golden Living (formerly Beverly) and if they had any luck getting them to pay for surgery?  I called them and they said they don't cover any gastric bypass surgery.  Our other insurance is Municipal Benefits Health Fund with my husbands work and they say they don't cover it either.  Why do we pay all this money to insurance companies but can't get anything in return?

Make both insurance companies send you your policy (what is covered and what isn't) IN WRITING.  Review it.   Do they contain a specific exclusion for WLS?  I have heard of people fighting and winning against their insurance companies if there is not a specific exclusion written into their policy.   There is an insurance help forum.  Have you posted this question there?  There are several people who may be able to help you there.   But the first step no matter what is to ask for a copy of both your policies in writing to see if there is a specific exclusion written in.  If not, you have a chance.  If there is, exclusions are VERY hard to get around.

I don't know anything about BC/BS insurance, but we had Municipal Health last year when I had my surgery and they will not pay for anything WLS related.  They do have a written exclusion in the policy for any type of WLS.  We hated their insurance coverage and are so glad my husband's work has changed carriers this year.  Thankfully we have Tricare as our secondary insurance and they paid for my surgery. Sorry I couldn't help you more...good luck to you!
