Dr. Baker told me to increase my daily caloric intake to 1000, and I almost made it up to that today.  I don't like it.  I don't feel comfortable doing it.  I'm not in a good mood about it.   10 ounces protein drink 16.9 ounces water SOLID MEAL 1 - pintos & cheese 16.9 ounces water SOLID MEAL 2 - 1 slice double fiber bread, 1 tbsp BBQ sauce & 3 tbsp ground beef 4 sugar free popsicles SOLID MEAL 3 - 6 tbsp chicken chili 2 cups skim milk + 2 tbsp chocolate syrup SNACK - 2 tbsp sunflower seeds + 4 apple slices

Don't fret my friend, you can do it. I remember so well my reaction to JoBeth when she told me to get at least 1500 cals a day!!!  Man, did I freak out!!!! Did you ever get an answer from the RD about the beans?  I'm going to send a message to one about how to gain some weight and see what they say. Thunderstorm coming...better get off the computer Hugs

Hey, I am SOOOO glad to hear from you.  I was getting worried again.   I am just worried because my weight loss has slowed down to a plateau.  I'm not in a stall yet, but I'm skirting one.  And that is on 700 calories a day.  What is increasing it to 1000 per day going to do to me?  I'm not ready to stop losing  yet.  I still weigh 160.  I know I'm not being reasonable or even rational.  But I can't help but be terrified of what may or may not happen.   Yes, I did get an answer on the beans and forgot to tell y'all.  Beans do NOT swell up inside you.  That is an old wives' tale.  As long as you cook them completely, they have already absorbed all the water they are going to and will not "suck any more" out of you and "swell up" because of it.

Honey, take a deep breath and let it out. Now, let Momma Susan tell you something that you can take to the bank. Increasing your food by 300 calories a day will NOT make you stop losing, in fact, you will probably kick start it again by doing so. Starvation mode is a phenomenon that our bodies created when we were hunters and gatherers millions of years ago. It is not something that we weight loss folks just toss about, but a real situation your brain puts your body into. When all we had to eat was what we could find, our brains would tell the body that there might not be another saber tooth tiger around to bar-b-cue for some time and it had better start hoarding what little it could find until the big feast came. So, same holds true now. You have been giving your body only a little bit of food for quite some time now and it's decided that things are looking pretty scarce, so better hang onto what there is to work with while it can. Eating more will jump start your metabolism and you'll start losing nicely again. Yes, you will slow down the closer you get to goal, but please believe me(lots of experience here!) it does work.  Eventually you will be increasing to 1200, then to 1500 cals a day. I know it's a hard concept to wrap your head around after all we go through to lose weight, but please do what Dr Baker says. Thanks for the info on the beans. Did it take long for them to get back to you? Take care.  Questions?  PM me and I'll send you my cell #

Sometimes it does take a few days to get an answer from an RD there.  Sometimes other people will chime in if they think they know the answer.  But usually a RD answers eventually.  I had to bump one of my posts once (about the beans) but they did answer.

I just replied to my own post with the word "bump" so that it "bumped" my post back up to the top of the forum.
