Hi, I'm not a bander, but I'll take an educated guess.  I'm assuming they don't "tighten" the band during surgery because your body needs time to heal from the surgery...there will be a lot of swelling inside and that needs to heal before doing any fills.  We have some banders on here, maybe they can enlighten you...and me too! Didn't your surgeon explain this to you before surgery?  He should have made sure that you understood there wouldn't be any restriction right after surgery, not like there is with RNY.  I'm sure you don't feel full on 3 oz. of food with a full size stomach, but rules are rules, make sure you stick to them...hang in there. Hopefully some banders will chime in on this one! Take care

Hey Brenda!!! First of all, HANG IN THERE, YOU CAN DO IT!!!  Ok, let's see, the reason that they do not put fluid in the band right after surgery is because you are very swollen inside and you need to heal from the incisions and the trauma that your body has been through.  I don't really remember being told I can only have a certain amount of food right after surgery. Maybe I was but thats been a while and I can't really remember. I will look through my papers and get back to you on that one. Anyway, I know 3oz. is a small amount but try some thick soups because they will keep you full for longer. I can honestly say that I was not hungry after sugery. I was very lucky. I would sit down at a meal with my family and eat like 2  or 3 tsp. of soup and then that was it. I was done. I could not tell if I was full or not (it was like I was numb inside....no feeling at all) but I decided that I wasn't hungry so I wasn't going to eat. Don't worry, in time this will happen for you too!!! I'm sure they gave you a list of acceptable foods to have in the weeks following surgery, but just in case they didn't, I will be more than happy to send you a list in a message. Just let me know. I think that the foods that are on the list are more "hearty" and will keep you full on very small amounts. Or at least it did in my case.  Well I hope this has helped you some. Take care of yourself and let me know if you need that list of foods.   Karen
