Urinary Discomfort/Infections after WLS
Hello Everyone,
This isn’t a topic that one talks about normally, sorry.. but who else to ask but the experts who have had weight loss surgery.
Is it more common to have urinary discomfort/infections after weight loss surgery? I’ve experienced my first urinary infection and was just wondering if it’s normal to have more after surgery? I don’t recall reading anything about an increase in urinary issues after weight loss surgery, but this being my first in my lifetime; I would like to know if urinary issues are more frequent after WLS.
I can only speak for me.........I have never had one since surgery. I have only had one many years prior to surgery. I am almost 7 years pot op. Maybe if one is prone to them , I dont know. I would think with all the water we consume it may be helpful in preventing them. I am clueless. Good luck tammy

I am not doing so good in this part of my journey...9 yrs later. :-(
I had one post op. It was explained to me that one of the reasons it happens is because we have so much protein in our urine from the rapid weightloss that it builds up and can cause UTIs. (you might have noticed crystals in your urine sample) I only experienced it the first few weeks after surgery. I made sure that I was drinking a lot of water and I took cranberry supplements to help (you'll want to ask your doctor before you do that if you want to try them - specifically I took AZO standard). After those first few weeks it went away and I haven't experienced it since. Not sure if that helps...but at least you know you're not alone. :0)
