Brenda, you CAN do this!!! First thing you have to do is stop saying how you're starving or you can eat the legs off the table. It only reinforces it in your mind and makes it worse. Get your mind off and onto something else. Go for a walk, read, do a jigsaw puzzle, anything to get your mind away from food. Forget about the two weeks after surgery, you aren't going to be hungry, you'll be concentrating on healing and feeling better.  So......you only have to do this for two weeks.  It gets easier, first three days are the roughest. Hugs

Hang in there Brenda...you can do this!  It will be SO worth it in the end.  Try to fill yourself up with as much water (or whatever you're allowed to drink freely) as possible and don't think about food...thinking about it will make you hungry, its called head hunger and it can be vicious, even after surgery.  Lose yourself in a good book or movie...find something you like to do and throw yourself into it.  When it hit me after surgery my house was spotless...I would clean for hours at a time just so I wouldn't think about food. Don't think about the next two weeks, just concentrate on getting through one day at a time.  When you go to bed at the end of each day and you've stuck to your diet you'll feel so good for having done it.  Its only 2 weeks compared to the rest of your life, you can do it.  Come here for support when you need it, that's what we're here for!

Well girl I am there with ya. I am almost 7 years post op and I am doing the 5 day pouch test which helps us long term post ops get back on track. I am on liquids for two days. It is very hard and I feel your pain. I can not imagine doing it longer than a few days. It does get easier and you will enjoy the end results. Just tell yourself there is a big reward at the end......you will be a loser!!!!!! yay I dont post much as Susan can tell you, but I am here if ya need to vent!!!! take care  Tammy

pre-op diest are SO hard!  you won't be starving after surgery at all, i promise.  you will be FORCING yourself to get those liquids down afterwards.  you are not in for a lifetime of this, i promise.  only pre-op is super hard!  keep up the good work!    go for something hot if you want--the broth from chicken noodle soup, etc.  it helped me a lot.

"I would love some canned tomatoes right now...."  (The legs off a table, with a bit of seasoning should be ok... I'm sure there are no calories in table legs)  ((bad will))  My second day (today) was a little bit easier.  Hopefully, tomorrow (1/30) will be even easier.  I think you get used to the hunger.  ( I dunno) I may have to try cleaning my house to keep my mind off the hunger too...  I KNOW my wife would LOVE that.  hehehe.... I got a full month of protein shakes (and that's it) so I'm thinking... "WOW... people have actually done this?"  But if they can do it, I can too!!!  Good luck!!

Hi Will! I was reading your posts as well as some of the posts of others on the pre-op diet. I just wanted to tell you to hang in there! This will all be over before you know it and then your life will become so dramatically different ( in a GREAT way)!!  What kind of surgery are you having?   Karen
