Does anyone know of any insurance company that will provide individual health insurance in  Arkansas after you have a gastric bypass. I will be 5 years post bypass in June this year, I'm trying to purchase individual health insurance, so I can go part-time(my employer does'nt have insurance for pt employees).United Health Car and Blue Cross Blue Shield have both rejected me. I am healthier today than I have ever been, have had no problems since may surgery, do not have to take any medication other than vitamins and calcuim supplement, but they say I am a HIGH RISK. If anyone has any helpful info please pass it on to me. Despite this bump in the road of life, I do not regret having my bypass, I believe this procedure saved my life and gave me the ability to live life to the fullest.

So sorry I can't be of any help, but you're not alone in the boat. My DH works for the State and I was rejected for life ins because I had a history of high blood pressure and depression....and of course, WLS.  Guess it doesn't matter that the WLS took care of the other two! Can you change employers?  Gary (DH) worked for Starbuck's for a few years and they have excellent coverage for part time employees who work 20 hrs a week. They covered my WLS and won't deny you coverage. Good luck, let us know what you find. P.S.   I'm also a Gibbs patient!

It seems like several months ago there was a post on the RNY forum about being rejected by insurance companies because of having Weightloss Surgery.  I know I have also heard of people being denied Life Insurance and not to long ago someone made a post on our board about not being able to join the military even though she was a few years post-op and was at goal and had no health problems.  I can understand why insurance companies would want to deny post-ops, I don't agree with it though  I guess they think that we might have problems later on and they don't want to pay for it.  Now I don't know 100% sure about all of this though, you might could try searching on the OH site for more information.  I don't know if the search features shows message boards posts or not, but I am sure somewhere on this site you can find an answer.
