DId anyone follow a strict diet before surgery?  It is so confusing.. ughh I am right at 360 lbs.. so I am aqful close to the mark of 400 lbs..which scares me that I won't be able to have surgery...so.. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on diets or anything that helped them before hand.  Thanks, Patricia

Good morning Patricia, Where are you on your journey? Do you have a surgeon yet, or are you just doing your research? The reason I ask is that some insurance providers require documented attempts at weight loss for a prescribed period of time before approval is given for surgery. Also, some doctors require their patients to lose a percentage of their weight, or go onto a liver reduction (liquid) diet prior to surgery. IMO, anything you do to go into surgery healthier, mentally and physically, is a huge step in the right direction.  Losing weight now isn't going to keep you from qualifying, unless, of course you lost enough to reach a normal BMI, but it will help get you into a good mind set for the change in your life that will happen after you have your surgery, as well as starting to prepare your body. Might I suggest you start on a good multivitamin and perhaps a B complex vitamin daily? Getting your blood levels up to very healthy levels will only help you do better immediately post op. You're going to have to take them the rest of your life anyway, might as well get into the habit now! Good luck, hope my early a.m. answer helped!

I did go on a diet of no carbonated drinks, no caffine and no sugar. I had whole grain breads, pasta and cereals.
Also only 3 meals a day. No grazing.
I was suprised at how easy it was and how quicklly the weight started coming off.
