almost 4 years out - need help

Hello everyone; I've been here before but have been away for about 2 - 3 years.  I've been fortunate that the pounds haven't jumped back on, but I have definitely noticed that the jeans I'm buying now aren't the same as a couple of years ago.  I recently got back into the gym which is a good thing, but I haven't paid attention to my eating like I should have over the past couple of years and I find myself forgetting what worked so well in the beginning.  I'm looking for anyone who may be in my shoes and can help me with ideas and support. Thanks!

Hi Cheryl, Welcome back, it's so nice to have people here with longer term experience!  Dr Gibbs was my surgeon too and I've had wonderful success, but have just gotten to goal in the last 4 months or so. As a group leader I can tell you that they tell us to advise our members to "go back to basics" by eating more protein, less carbs and fat, get plenty of water in and exercise. Good for you for getting on this before it gets out of hand!  I'm not trying to run you away from our forum here, but have you checked out the Graduates forum? There are many long term members there who are in the same boat as you and can offer lots of support and advice.  Check them out, but bring your info back here to share!  We're all going to need it.

Susan

Hi Cheryl, it is glad to have you here on our little corner of Obesityhelp.  I am only 5 months out, but like Susan said, I have read many times where people years out start gaining a little weight, and most often I hear that going back to the basics is the best thing.

post op......almost 7 years....re-gained 30 after losing 100...... we get so comfortable that we tend to forget how to follow the rules. alot of grads are doing the 5day pouch test. I have not started it.  i guess it is just going back to the basics.  my regain is in part to being lazy, not following the rules, stress and my thyroid and now being hypoglycemic. i dunno.......somedays I just want to give up. its easier.

good luck

Hi tabstattooed; I hate to hear that you want to give up some days.  That's sad to me.  I'm in the same boat as you, lots of other stuff going on and not following up. I'm doing the 5 day pouch test right now and it is HARD, but I know it'll be worth it.  In kind of a geeky way, it has inspired and made me remember why I allowed myself to be "gutted like a trout" in the first place.  ha! Wanna do the 5 day pouch test with me?  Maybe with support it would be easier.

I have been trying to start it, the 5dpt, but i work in an office where they want to eat out and also hound me about eating. I have a few appointment mid week and stuff like that makes it  hard. I hope to start it Monday (28jan). How long have you been doing it and what results have you seen thus far?? I am really depressed and being treated for it. I never had a support group as my surgery was done in Boston. I moved here, and no doctors want to see me as I am not their patient from the start. I am currently seeing an endocrinologist and his nutritionist. Maybe things will start changing for the good. I have no motivation at all. I have no energy. I am just so blah all the time.

maybe soon......... take care Tammy i am hoping to start monday on the 5dpt

I work in the same kind of environment.  Everyone LOVES a potluck.  I also travel a lot and do business dinners here in town.  Makes it difficult, but also gives me an easy excuse not to stick to things.   When I first had my surgery I would think "why not just tape that food to your butt? It'll have the same effect if you eat it."  I've gone back to that. What I did was make myself a drawer of food, protein powder etc., and that's the only place my meals can come out of.   I've forced myself to go to the gym and work out with the goal that I know I'll feel better.  I've only been on the pouch test since yesterday, and I'm already noticing that I'm in better touch with how I feel.  I'm trying to figure out what kick starts my cravings, and I hope that when I move to proteins that will help. Sounds to me like your move may have kicked your butt and you may be going back to food for comfort.  I'm not a psychologist though. :-) Let me know how things come along. :-) Also, there is another message board on here (although I love this one too) called "WLS Graduates" that has members who are as far out as we are.  Sometimes that can help a lot - someone who has "walked in your shoes".
