What do you do now??
I was just talking to my husband this evening and we were discussing what we would like to do this summer. I am actually looking forward to this summer and I haven't since felt like that since I was young. I plan on having surgery in mid-March and I think I will feel like going out and doing more with my DH and girls this summer.
Anyways, I was wondering how surgery has changed everyone's activities. What do you do now that you wouldn't have done before WLS?
Thanks,
Wendi
Hello Wendi,
I had WLS six months ago and have lost a total of 103 pounds. Shedding this weight has given me the freedom to actively participate in my seven year old son's life. I can now get in the floor with my son and do some heavy-duty lego building with ease and not need to roll around like a walrus to get up from the floor :)
Recently I was on vacation, wore a swimsuit to the pool and was comfortable about it. I no longer need a seat belt extension when flying coach. I can sit comfortably in the seats at The Walton Arts Center or a movie theater. Sliding into a booth at a restaurant is no longer a struggle. I will be heading to Disney in March and look forward to riding rides that I was too large to ride before.
These are some of life's activities that I now ENJOY!
Hey Wendi,
A ruptured Achilles tendon a few months after my WLS has kept me unable to do a lot of physical activities, but you can bet this spring and summer we'll be out and about much more.
One thing that I noticed most of all this last summer was that the heat didn't bother me as much as it did before surgery. Even though I couldn't do a lot of walking and such, I didn't mind being outside, 'cause I wasn't sweating like a piglet! I still must be very careful on uneven ground but I'm looking forward to finding out what new and exciting things await me.
I can tell you this: I can fit in a movie theater seat with my purse next to me. Restaurant booths are too big, I can curl myself into the seat of just about any easy chair, the seat in my car has to be closer to the wheel and I still don't touch it, it only takes about a yard of thread to hem BOTH legs of a pair of pants, I have a lap, can sit on my husband's lap and can cross my legs, my shoes are smaller, my bra straps don't dig into my shoulders. Life is good in a size 2/4
By June you'll have your energy back from surgery and will have lost enough weight to really be able to tell a difference. Can't wait to hear how you're enjoying your summer when it gets here.
Take care
Susan
