Good morning and Happy New Year my friends! Since we're not supposed to drink, I trust we're all waking up refreshed and ready to tackle the new year.  I'm sipping my SF vanilla latte, waiting patiently for the Big Game to start. I was thinking about people and their New Year's resolutions. Why do we do that to ourselves? 90% of people who make them never carry them out beyond January 10th, setting them selves up for failure and lowering their self esteem. So why not just set some goals or things we'd like to achieve this next year. My list isn't too long 1  Finally get the interior of our house repainted, new floors and furniture in the living area.  The contractor painted the entire (even ceilings) hot chocolate brown and I feel like I live in a cave. 2  Continue to learn and educated myself about WLS so I can be a better support group leader. Organize a group to help improve insurance coverage in Arkansas for people who are excluded from this benefit. 3  Work harder to improve my business so I don't have to go get a "real" job How about you?  What do you want to accomplish in 2008??

1. Spend more quality time with my kids & husband. 2. Pay off my Dillards card & my new mattress. 3. Get to my goal weight. 4. Start exercising in some real way (as opposed to just moving more). 5. Get the remodel started again on my house.

Great goals Wendy!  We're redecorating our house and doing a bit of remodeling at the same time.  Think it will qualify as "quality time" with DH??? It will be great to get that debt paid down, just another monkey on our backs. After that's gone look at all the $$ you'll have for new clothes! Have a happy, healthy New Year.  See you on the 10th???

I, too, hate the resolutions, but I have jotted down some goals.  My first will be to slow down. Even before weightloss surgery, I went at a run all day long.  Now that I am over a hundred pounds lighter, I never slow down. I pack my days full of studying, writing, teaching, volunteering, and whatever else I can squeeze into my packed schedule.  So, I am going to slow down by giving up some of my volunteer work.  I am also going to end my day by 5 so that I can spend more time recovering from the stress of the day.  Finally, I am going to do fun things, like reading for fun, watching a little television, spend more time in these beautiful hills, and just try to be still.   By the way, today is my birthday!!! Hubby got me the new IPod thingy that you can check your email, watch a movie, store pictures, and listen to music.  The last IPod I owned, my son hijacked it, but this one I am holding on to. I see great possibilities for listening to books, lectures, and whatever else when I am driving. No need to waste time, right?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!! Here's my party for you, complete with what would be dancing cabana boys!! Hope you can figure out your IPod thingy. I'm so technology challenged it's not funny. I'm lucky to be able to use my cell phone. Maybe that should be one of my goals? Anyway, my friend, I sure hope you have had a wonderful day. I like your goals, especially the ones about slowing down. Would that mean we could see your smiling face more often? Take care Hugs and birthday smoochies

Gee Susan,  you must be reading whats left of my mind.  I was just thinking this morning how Im not setting resolutions, Im setting goals. My #1 goal is to be the best person I can be, best wife, best aunt, best friend, best whatever. #2 is to exercise every day, even if it is just brisk walks around the house here, moving some is better than none at all. #3 is to get a grip on my house.  Since we moved in, its been chaos since we have lived in just 2 rooms for so long and finally have a bedroom, I want to make sure it stays clean and not cluttered anymore. #4 is to make sure I get all my vitamins and protein in every day, as well as liquids, as this has been a challenge for me the entire almost 11 months (go**** has been a long time) since my surgery. #5 is to start a support group here in South Arkansas, where folks in this area who are thinking of surgery or have had surgery and just need a support group can come, just to talk.  (Yes Susan, I'll still be coming to Little Rock every month)

#6-Last but not least, I want to be the best advertisement for this surgery, not just b/c Im thin, but b/c I want folks to see that it does NOT have to alter your personality, or who you are, but that it can save your life and make you a better person.

Hope everyone else has had a great New Year, ours has been really laid back, keep moving to lose, and I love you all.

Hugs,

Rhonda

I dont usually set goals....for far too long, the ones I did set, I never accomplished. however...I guess my number one goal at the moment is the surgery. Its still 2 1/2 months away...but its all I can think about right now. I sometimes wish I could speed up time, so it would be here and I could get it over with and get on with my life.. All of my would-be goals are dependent on the surgery. So, until I get it done, I cant do the things that I really want to do. Its just so hard to move right now..so exercise is just not an option. I have a gym membership that I havent used in several months...so that really should be a goal. The pool is really nice and I love doing that...guess the main thing stopping me is the fact that my bathing suit doesnt fit well so I hate stuffing myself into it. .....one day, I will be able to fit into one comfortably!

I guess I don't need the normal resolutions most people set since A) I am losing weight and B) I quit smoking 3 years ago (on New Years). So my goals should be to be better at taking my supplements, I really suck doing this, I go week or two without taking anything, I get off track on that easily, same for my protein and water. I need to keep better hours, if I slept normally then eating 3 meals a day (as opposed to my current 1 or 2 meals a day) would be easier, drinking 64oz of liquids would be a breeze.  I don't feel like I get that many hours in a day because I don't even wake up until like 2pm.  And then I feel tired all day and don't get anything done. I also want to make my living room better, I live in mine and it is cluttered from floor to ceiling.  No joke, it is bad, so I need to better organize it and stop shopping at thrift stores. That should be enough for me.

I've never made resolutions...why wait until one day of the year to decide that you have areas of your life that need improvement?  I do this on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis.  I am constantly re-evaluating my life to see where I can improve and, unfortunately, I find something every time. Goals?  Haven't thought much about it.  My daily supplements, protein, and fluids are like clockwork to me and I eat well on a daily basis.  I have really slacked off on exercise though.  I guess my main goal at this point is to get back into my exercise routine.  It won't be long now before spring which means short sleeves, or sleeveless, and shorts.  I want to tone and firm up whatever I can before then.  My other main goal is to make a gorgeous, professional looking groom's cake for my little brother's wedding in August.  I took on the challenge and believe I can do it, but it will take a lot of time and practice, so wish me luck! Can't really think of anything else right now, if I do I'll post it.
