Surgery Date
March 14, 2008 is my day to change my life..
I really wish I could have done it sooner, but hubby cant get out of school til Spring Break...so I will have to wait.
We still have to get Passports...doing that next week.
I guess the time will be here before I know it and I will be on a plane headed to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Im really nervous...but know its gonna be ok
Congratulations on getting a surgery date!! I am so excited that you will finally get to have the surgery done, I know how long of a wait it has been for you.
If you don't mind me asking, since your going out of the country, who will be doing your aftercare? Your follow-ups and lab? And all those kind of things. I know that after surgery, seeing your surgeon is more important than ever. Will you have to travel to and from Mexico for all your follow-ups? Or have you found a surgeon closer to you to do follow up? If your surgeon doesn't do follow up or you can't travel back and forth, please be sure you find someone closer to home who will be able to take care of you afterward.
I have heard lots of good stories on some of the surgeons in Mexico, but I have also heard of some instances where problems arised after surgery and a patient not being able to find any surgeon in the states to help them, since they went out of the country for the surgery.
Please keep us updated, and after your surgery I want to hear all about your experience, and also Puerto Vallarta, I hear that it is beautiful there.

I have a wonderful Internist here that will continue to care for me afterward. I dont have to go back to Mexico for followups. I will do that here. I will have all of my medical records and what they did in Mexico to bring back with me to give to my doctor.
If I need a surgeon when I get home, I can go back to the one here...or go to ER for emergencies. Being a nurse, I have plenty of friends to lean upon for help and support.
Im really looking forward to getting on with my life. This has been a long journey...its not over...but at least Im near the top of the hill..
As for labs....I see my Internist every 3 months on a regular basis anyway...and in between when I need him. Having the disease processes that I have, I have to get labs done regularly anyway..
I will be sure to let ya know....Everyone says its beautiful there..I hope I get to enjoy the scenery a little..I will be in the hotel for 3 days after my 2 days in the hospital...so we will see...i want to sit on the beach and feel the sand between my toes
lol
Hello there....
I am new here, just registered recently, and I couldn't help but read your post and feel compelled to tell you that you going to Mexico for a sleeve gastrectomy worries me. I know that I don't know you but I have seen many patients in the same predicament. I am a nurse also and I work and live in Northwest Arkansas. There is a surgeon here that is new to the area and I hear nothing but wonderful things about him. He has a great success rate with the band, bypass and the sleeve.
Before you go all the way to Mexico, please look at all of your options here. I know from experience that most qualified bariatric surgeons will not be willing to take care of you post op if you go to Mexico for your surgery simply due to the fact that they didn't do it and they don't really know what was done without having been there.
I wish you the best and hope that you will take the time to investigate this new doctor in Springdale. His name is Josh Roller.
Thanks for listening......
I am glad to hear that you will be able to have good follow up care! I hope that you will get a chance to go to the beach, but you will more than likely not want to, LOL Atleast after my surgery I didn't enjoy much, except walking up and down the hallway and eating ice chips, LOL

Theres a big difference between the RNY and the VSG so Im hoping I will feel fair. Ive had several surgeries, so I know what to expect. I usually do ok with them. I suppose even if Im hurting, I can sit in a chair on the beach, which is right behind my hotel...just as well as I can sit in a chair inside lol
one way or another, my toes are gonna feel sand...if only for a few minutes..unless its raining....oh lordy, theres another potential problem
lol
