I just can't seem to break my habit of pumpkin seeds.  I used to eat them pre-op but not often, now I keep a supply at all times.  They don't seem bad for me though.  A serving has 9 grams of protein.  I think my new addiction is the pumpkin seeds.  Forget food, shopping, exercising addictions, I have pumpkin seeds.  I wonder if there is a Pumpkin Seed Eaters Anonymous?  I'd probably be it's only member.  LOL Do you have any new addictions since your surgery?

Hey Ev, Well, I must admit, I do have an addiction.  Mixed nuts!!!!  I cant seem to be without them, they are in my car, on my bedside table, in the truck, and on my desk.  I guess, like you, that this is not a bad thing.  My only concern is the fat content.  So now I count them out and eat only 20 at a time.  I dont know why just 20, but hey, it works for me. I have also discovered that I love roasted pecans, so I eat them alot.  Ive never tried pumkin seeds, tell me what you like, can you buy them in the bulk? I like to buy different kinds of nut mix, combine them in a big bowl, and then after they are mixed dump them back in the cans they all came in.  I know, Im a lil nutty!!  I just figure mixed nuts or even pumpkin seeds is a better addiction than chocolate covered raisins or bridge mix!! I also have discovered that I love to go somewhere and shop, or should I say, browse.  I dont spend alot of money, but I absolutly love to look at stuff. I dont know why, or understand it, but I can spend hours just looking at stuff.  Maybe its because we are working on our house, and I am thinking future.  Plus, its sooooo nice to be able to spend hours walking and looking w/o my knees and back and feet killing me.   Thanks for your post, I like to see what people have developed a love for that we didnt have before surgery, isnt this the best thing we have ever done?? Hugs to you, Rhonda P. S. Mike says you are really looking great!!!!

oooooo mine is a Tostada from Taco Gringos. if I eat very slow its a good meal....unless they pile on the beans and than its a meal and a snak! LOL I have my own lil cubby next to my desk with my new fav snaks... pure protien protien bars. I try and eat 1 a day  20grams of protien... oh and before WLS I would get beef jerky and they would come steal it from me...if I ever saw it again after getting it home.....now they make sure I have it....I like the Jack Links beef steak nuggets Teriyaki flavor...the chunks are hard enough to make me slow down and CHEW CHEW CHEW but soft enough not to break my teeth. 10 grams P per serving  when I was having real issues with regular meat I was still able to eat the jerky...go explain that. why is it that nuts are bad for you? and how do Pumpkin seeds taste...my only reference is sunflower seeds. are those bad or good? I have stayed away from nuts and such....not sure why...I know I had a reason where do you buy pumpkin seeds? nutti

Hi Nutti, Here's the scoop on nuts. They aren't bad for you, actually, they are very good for you.  The down side is they are high in fat calories, but the fat they contain are from "monounstaturated" fats whi*****rease the levels of good cholesterol  and decrease the bad cholesterol. Also, they are very high in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Almonds are the best: 1/3 cup (which is A LOT for us!) 283 calories, 10 gr protein, 25 gr fat (16 grms monounsaturated) 5 grams of fiber. Now, peanuts are NOT nuts, they are legumes (like beans and lentils)....they grow on vines, not trees. They do have similar values to nuts though: 1/3 cup 285 cals, 12 grams protein, 24 grms fat (12 grams mono) and 3.9 grams of fiber. Hope this helps! Keep up the great work!

Susan

I am not sure I can describe the taste of them.  I buy them from Walgreens, but I get the Davids brand because they are smaller and sometimes I just like to eat the shell too.  They don't taste like sunflower seeds, I bought a big bag of sunflower seeds and didn't really care for them.  The pumpkin seeds are nice and small so a few are no big deal.
