Recovering well

Hey guys - I'm home from the hospital. My hysterectomy went really well. I had the surgery on Thursday morning, was up and about yesterday and they sent me home this morning. They sent me home with some really good pain medicine so I'm doing ok. The gas pains are aweful - we all remember those from the bypass, huh!? I think I have them worse with this surgery than I did with that one. But other than that, I'm very pleased with how well I'm doing.

On Tuesday this week I went for my 6 month check up with Dr. Gibbs and I've lost 112 lbs since my first weigh in with him. He was so happy to see how well I've done. It was great to be able to share with him how much this has changed my life and to thank him for being a part of that.

Well, my medicine is kicking in so I'm off for now. Talk more later. AT

AT, you're amazing!!! So glad you popped in to let us know you're home and safe.  Wow, I bet Dr Gibbs was really pleased with your progress. How much more do you want to lose?  How were your labs? Will you be off work/school for awhile so you can come here and play with us more often?  Love having you around. Gentle hugs

Susan

I plan to be off until after the 1st of the year so I have lots of time to hang out. My labs were all wonderful. My B-12 was a little low - Dr. Gibbs said 400 was the minimum and I was at 396 so not too bad but he still wanted me to take a supplement for a little while.

My overall goal was to reach 160 - I was 171 at my weigh in at his office so not much more to go to reach that goal. He said I will still be losing some but it has already slowed way down. I expect after this surgery to have lost a little more - not to much of an appetite the last few days. I will probably be getting in contact with Jo Beth pretty soon to talk about a maintaining program.

I'll be checking in more often - look forward to catching up with everyone. AT

My b-12 was low too, in fact, it was 397.  From what I've read about the "B's" is that they are essential for neurological function. Before I started taking my b-12 supplements, I had a hard time concentrating and sometimes couldn't even finish a sentence because I couldn't think of a word.  Also, 400 is considered the low normal, but since we have issues with  absorbing nutrients, we should shoot for the upper range of normal which is 1000.  I find maintenance to be really hard.  After a year of eating less than 1000 calories a day, it's difficult to imagine eating more than that.  JoBeth is so good at helping us with this. I think she has me at a place where I can hold my weight. As soon as I started eating more, I lost a few more pounds, and it was the last thing I wanted to do. I've been going along at about 1600 cals a day, but over the weekend I shot up to almost 2000, and sure enough, when I weighed today I'd lost another 1.5 lbs. So, there you go, you just have to find that sweet spot where your body wants to be. It's all just a balancing act, isn't it? Hope to see you at the support group meeting in January.

Susan, just a question -- how is it that when you increase your food intake you start losing more weight?  Is that something that happens with the RNY?  I've heard several people who are at goal say the same thing, and it boggles my mind.
