Has anyone else had a problem with never feeling full?  I know that they warned us that not everyone gets the full feeling but I am surprised that I never feel full.

I had my surgery on October 22nd and I have lost 37 lbs. but I seem to have stopped losing.  I am trying to stay on the lower end or mid range of the amount of food that I am allowed to have but I have starting feeling hungry!!  The first month after my surgery I wasn't hungry at all.   Is this normal???

I was told that we don't have feeling in our pouches after surgery because the nerve endings were severed during surgery.  I don't know how long after surgery though when we start feeling hunger and fullness again.  That is why we don't feel hungry and why we don't feel full.  So you have to watch for signs of fullness, such as pain in your back, tightness in your chest area, feeling of food in your throat, etc.   This is also why it is important that we measure all of our food during meal times, so we don't eat to much.  I hope this answers your question, and I am sure some one who knows more than me will respond. Congrats on your surgery, Dr. Baker did my surgery (Open RNY) Aug 15th of this year.  I have lost 70lbs since surgery (30 while I was on the pre-op liquid diet for 4 weeks).

Thanks for the info.  I am not as concerned about not feeling full as I am being hungry.  I am going to make sure that I am measuring everything EXACTLY and then I shouldn't have to worry about anything.  Congrats on your weight loss.  It is encouraging to hear.

Is it head hunger or physical hunger?  (In other words, does your stomach actually growl or do you just want more?)

I've heard many people say that hunger does eventually return, but ALL of them say it NEVER returns the way it did pre-op.

If it is real hunger, it is nothing to be afraid of.  (I can understand you being afraid though, believe me.)  Just eat the prescribed amount of food.  Your body/mind will take time to get used to it.

I have found that if I don't eat enough protein then I don't feel full. So I increase my protein to help get over the hump.
