Need to change Drs.
VSG on 12/03/12
Hi all! I have been lurking for years here. I have been able to find answers to most of my questions in the posts but I haven't seen this issue addressed yet. I had a lap-band done by Dr. Wellborn and I am very happy with him. The issue is that he is no longer one of my insurance's preferred providers. So now what do i do? My insurance company is willing to pay for my fills as long as i need them. (forever!) Will another Dr. do my fills? I really need one now, I can eat so much! I am stuck on 302 pounds and would like to be below 300 before Christmas. None of our kids know I had surgery so I want to lose some more weight before they come home for the holidays. It just seems like a waste of money to pay for my insurance and then pay for the fills when I don't have to. I have United Healthcare and they paid for my surgery 100%. So does anyone know what Drs. would be willing to do my fills?
Hi Sherry,
You're lucky that your insurance will pay for your fills, but it's my understanding (from Dr Gibbs) that most doctors won't do another doctor's patients fills. It's especially tough when you move away from the area where you were when you had the lap band done to begin with. I don't think it's a matter of who is paying, insurance or self-pay, it is a matter of treating another doctor's patient.
I know Dr Gibbs does lap band now, and I think Dr Baker too, so it won't hurt to call their offices and ask.
Good luck to you. Let us know how things go for you.
