i used dr gibbs for banding.  i did about 2 weeks of liquid diet before surgery to help shrink my liver.  what kind of long term information do you want?  the reason i like my band and why it was right for me was that i didn't like the idea of malabsorption.  my weight loss is much slower than rny'ers, but i didn't want to give up sugars and fats--i just wanted to eat them in smaller portions!  i have never had a problem binging on sweets.  if you do, then the band is not for you.  you can "cheat" the band by eating soft, sweet thigns--ice cream, cake, etc.  you will not lose weight if you eat all that.  if you ahve rny, you can't eat those soft sweet things or you will get sick!   i wanted to be able to eat some of those thigns occasionally, and i like the idea that my band stays in forever and doesn't lose its effectiveness.  and i like that it's adjustable.  that's why it was right for me.  and i loved dr gibbs!
