OK gang, prayers needed for me!

The continuing saga of my bum foot/ankle continues.  The dang thing has an infection in it again. It started on Thursday, saw the doc on Friday (who was filling in for my regular ortho) who put me on Cipro. I go to see my regular doc at 12:45 today and he will most likely put me into Baptist for IV antibiotics, maybe more surgery. This is NOT a good time for this to happen.  I'm getting so busy at the salon due to the holidays, have a nice day planned for my family on Thursday, and just want this nightmare to be over. I've come so far with this and now a major set back. There are some folks that I've talked (medical types) that are of the opinion that the infection can be coming from something left inside there.  I've been trying to tell my doc that for three months or more!  Oh well, life is like this, I guess. Say a prayer for me....I'll keep you posted

I hope they are able to get everything fixed for you.  What do you think they could have left in there?  Could a x-ray show if there was something there?  I hope the infection heals quickly and you are back home in time for Thanksgiving.

How awful. My prayers are with ya.  What is it that is wrong? Im an RN, maybe I can offer my opinion? If an infection is persitent, its most likely Staph, which is inside and takes a long time to get rid of.  Im hoping the antibiotics help you...and u get well.. good luck..

Hi Lisa, Are you new to our little group?  If you are....Welcome!!! This whole thing is a long nasty story. Started out last October with a partial tear of the Achilles (three weeks post WLS). Doc put me into a boot until Xmas and declared it healed. Then, in March I was getting out of the pool at the Y and ruptured it completely. Had surgery to repair it and five weeks later developed an infection. That, we decided was from me using one of those nylon scrubbie things in the shower. So, three surgeries to get rid of the infection, one week in the hospital, a month on home health IV antibiotics. Turns out the infection was Staph, Strep and "the soup of bacteria found in shower water".  The doctor's long term outlook was awful, said I'd have to wear a brace for the rest of my life, I'd never walk normally, yada ya da. It too****il about 8 weeks ago for the wound to completely heal. Had to go to wound care for treatment. So, there isn't any open wound for bugs to get into.  I've proven him wrong on so many levels, PT has helped me be able to walk without the brace and my limp is hardly noticeable. So, all of a sudden there is this very sore, red, hot area across the back of my foot, just below the incision line. They've had me on Cipro since Friday and just this a.m. it's feeling better. He's scheduled me for an MRI with contrast on the 28th to rule out ostermyelitis (sp).   All along there has been this tiny line on the side of my foot that is raised and white....looks a little like a scar, but it pokes me and is hard. Even the therapist told me to have him look at it. Well, he said it is a nerve with adhesions on it. I think there is something in there! Honestly, Lisa, at this point I don't know where to go. I'm very frustrated and am losing trust and faith in this doctor, who everyone says is a leading specialist in the foot/ankle injuries. By the way, he's not the original doc, the one who treated the partial tear is. I think the current doctor has had to clean up the mess caused by #1 not surgically repairing the partial tear. Thanks for your prayers and concern. Hope you have a terrific day!

Susan

Oh my, you have had a rough time of it, for sure. I think I would be getting another opinion from another doctor. It is possible that something was left in there during the surgery or that something was done wrong. In either case, something needs to be done and it wont get corrected by this doctor evidentally. The MRI will show whats going on in there, so be sure to have that. Be sure to get a copy of that report and take it to another doctor if you decide to do that. I hope things get better for you. And yes, i am new to this board..thanks for the welcome.
