10 or 11 years ago when I had my daughter, I had medicaid.  Back then, the mother was allowed to stay on it for 3 months after the birth of the child.  After 3 months, her medicaid automatically expired.  (The 3 months was to allow follow-up check-ups for the mother, etc.)  The baby, of course, gets to keep it or go on ARkids, whichever they qualify for, indefinately.   Probably too long ago information to be useful, but thought I'd chime in.

Wendy is correct, it lasts only 3 months.  When I tried to apply a few years ago to help with my constant hospital stays, I was told that it was good for 3 months.  But, my question is, will she be able to afford to keep going back to the surgeon after the 3 months of Medicaid is up,  to get her fills and any other lapband related needs?  If she wants to have it, she really needs to get the paperwork and such done soon, because that alone can take months.  The 2 surgeons in Arkansas that can take Medicaid (and Medicare) have requirements that the patient must fulfill before they will even see them for the consult.  Such as labwork, sleep study, psychiatric evaluation, attending a seminar and also attending one support group meeting, which is only held once a month.  I do not know when the next meeting for the lapband is though. She should call Dr. Mark Gibbs in Little Rock and also Dr. John W. Baker in Little Rock, they are the 2 surgeons who will take Medicaid.  They can give her more information. I hope this helps.  And I wish your sister good luck on getting the Lapband done.  I do hope you keep us updated on her journey.
