Crushing Pills Question
I was wondering if I crush my calcium pills will my body still absorb them? I only ask because I don't know if it is different for a post op than for a regular person whose body doesn't have malabsorption problems.

I asked my surgeon's nurse about this when I went for my checkup on Friday, and she said I can crush my calcium if I wanted to. My body will still absorb it :)

now is it better to crush them?
are you doing this because they are so big?
I have been doing chewables but I found out they are not exactly what I need and now I have BIG pills to get down...I am not overly fond of any pills.
always looking for an easier way to get all I need nutrition wise.
Thanks for the update!

I don't think it makes a difference if we crush them or not. I did it because they were so big. I thought I was taking the right kind, the walgreens calcium chews, and found out recently that they were calcium carbonate and as post-ops we need calcium citrate. The walgreens brand pills are just gigantic.
The nurse said that if I wanted to, I could put them in a glass of water (either crushed or let them dissolve) and could do it that way. I am not sure what they would taste like in water, LOL. Probbaly better than crushing and putting in food.
The Citracal Creamy Bites are the right kind of calcium, but I have yet to see them in the store anywhere. That is what I am wanting, but until I find them, I will stick with the horse pills, haha
